  • Someone must have blown a fuse at Wrigley Field.

The lights went out at 8:25 p.m. CT in the fourth inning of the Cubs' game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Chicago pitcher Tom Gorzelanny threw a 3-1 pitch to Blake DeWitt that home-plate umpire Wally Bell called a ball, and suddenly the ballpark went dark.

Players came off the field and the umpires huddled together, eating sunflower seeds.

The electronic scoreboard lights along the upper deck seating area remained on, the press-box lighting and power worked, and organist Gary Pressy never stopped playing.

About 15 minutes after it was dark, the lights were back on and players returned to the field. Play resumed 18 minutes after the lights went out.

This was the third time there's been a mini blackout during a night game at Wrigley. On June 24, 2003, there was an outage in the first inning against the Milwaukee Brewers. That delay lasted about 15 minutes. On May 6, 2003, the Lakeview neighborhood had a power outage, and the lights went out at Wrigley for another Cubs-Brewers game, this time in the ninth inning. That stoppage lasted 15 minutes as well.

Wrigley was the last Major League ballpark to get lights when they were installed in 1988.

                          • He got another hit. I hope his average stays up around .857

                            • How crazy is this ROY award going to be? Heyward is the obvious leader right but now you have Buster Posey up and Strasburg is due in about a week with Stanton supposedly coming up about the same time. Gaby has been impressive for us but at the end he can't compare to these guys. Going to be fun to watch all these young studs.

                              • Bruce Bochy said Posey's call up might be temporary. He best keep hitting near .900
