Not 40 man eligible. They won’t push him until next summer minimum

    • Holy smokes! Could Ryne Stenak possibly look worse? In addition to giving up tons of runs on his own, he seems to allow every inherited runner to score. In 10.2 innings for TB, Nick Anderson has 0 BB and 20 K. One solo homer allowed. Stenak has walked 10 and allowed 8 ER in just nine innings. It's Tayron Guerrero revisited.

I predict Vesia will win a roster spot out of spring training next season. He's 23.

And pitching-wise, it's important to remember that bookends Humberto Mejia (now on IR) and Edward Cabrera were selected as the top pitching prospects in the Midwest and Florida State Leagues this year by the managers and coaches. On that basis, those two would have to be considered among the very best prospects in the Marlin organization

Vesia won't break camp with the team as they would lose a year of service time with him if they did that (they would have to wait 2+ weeks to call him up to deflect that) AND have to DFA one of the following 22 pitchers: Ca. Smith, Pablo, Sandy, Yamamoto, Elieser, Urena, Stanek, Steckenrider, Brice, Brigham, Garcia, Conley, Quijada, Sixto, Neidert, Guzman, Castano, Dugger, Holloway, Stewart, Mejia, "TBD veteran SP/RP depending on where they play Urena (I think this is a given as they do need an innings eater or Romo for 2020)". Is Vesia worth that? Note, Guerrero, Chen, Kinley, Keller, Milbrath, Eveld, Mills, Poteet, and an assortment of other arms are already DFA'd/not protected in 40 man from the above list. So you REALLY are making a statement on Vesia if you move him in when you don't have to over everyone. A realistic best case scenario here is, he is great in the AFL, great in AAA April-June, and forces his way onto the team in the second half. However, I don't think even in that scenario he is even necessary to add, as they have a real numbers problem coming (Garrett, Rogers, Cabrera, Soriano, Devers, and B. Miller are post 2020 adds), and if they can avoid adding someone to the 40 man roster, I think they stretch that out as far as possible. I'll say 2021 for Vesia, if at all.

Cabrera is certainly in the top 5-10 and Mejia top 30. It's going to be hard to move Mejia much higher than that given what else they have.

        • As if things weren’t bad enough for Brinson....

He hit a laser line drive right at Trea Turner in his 2nd AB against Strasburg and in his 3rd AB, the umpire called strike 3 on ball 4.

          • Cabrera is now a TOP 100 Prospect. Miami has 7 guys on it now

Where? BA? BP? Link? I can't find it for some reason.

              • Anyone here comfortable with Caleb Smith starting a Wild Card playoff game for us in 2021/2022?

                <<<——————Not this guy

Clearly allows results of previous AB’s to leak into subsequent AB’s.

                  MLB.com Pipeline(Callis/Mayo)

                  Look at #100

Isan will graduate but ALL others should be "prospects" till next Sept which means we could have 7-9 Top 100 Prospects come next Sept

                    Thanks.

Not to split hairs though, but Sixto and Harrison (and L. Diaz, and maybe Sanchez and Neidert if they click faster) are probably graduated by next September. They are going to have a real need for Sixto, Monte, and Lewin come June/July 2020. I can see Bleday, Jazz, Sanchez, and Cabrera still squarely in the minors, and we can hope that their 2020 top 3 pick, and some of Neidert/Rogers/Garrett/Scott/Guzman/Devers/Misner are doing well enough to get into the backend of the top 100. I could see them get up to 7-9, but a lot is going to have to click right to get there. Either way, all good news with the farm. Time to spend money a year early to begin establishing legitimacy.

Diaz needs to get his shit together, but that .204 BABIP and 12.4% MLB BB rate speak for themselves even with a SSS. He could start hitting .230/.325/.400+ very fast, and that's a 2 WAR player (see Moncada 2018).

Neidert is NOT on Top 100 this year. Ya they probably are by September but if Miami plays cards right in the draft they can get 2 Top 100 players in ML draft. 2020 is best one in like 10 years-if we have #2 Pick u could take 3 or 4 different guys(ALL would be Top 100 in MLB) then with $$$ saved because Picks 1-3 usually never pay slot float a top guy down to #40

Grab Hancock or Wilcox at #2 for 1 or 2 million under slot
Grab a guy who falls from Rd 1 at #40 because of cash like Allan this year and Leiter/Rocker

Over the last 30 days, Brinson is the worst qualified hitter in the National League at 21 wRC+ (100 is league average). Nobody else in the NL is close.
