I dont think youre gonna see much normalzing for him, or for that matter much improvement from what he is now. He's a decent MLB catcher, but as a 2nd piece in a JT deal he leaves a lot to be desired compared to the names we were discussing in a JT deal all winter. He's not bad, but he is a 3rd piece in a JT deal, not a 2nd, especially when the first piece is a huge injury risk.
Relatively high is an understatement. I just searched fangraphs from all players 1915-2019, minimum 600 PA, and sorted by BABIP. 4,158 players.

Jorge Alfaro has the highest BABIP (.395) - of all time in MLB history - with that search criteria of merely 600 PA.

The guy behind him (Ty Cobb) had a .376 BABIP, so Alfaro is blowing him away. Interestingly, a lot of other modern players are in the top 10 like Dahl, Judge, D. Santana, and Yelich who comes in 10th (.357).

I can appreciate Alfaro may be a high BABIP player for whatever reason, but I am not buying (even remotely) a best of all-time skill set even with his masher approach.

We are going to see much normalizing. That being said, he's a fine player and I like him and think he has a shot at being a solid 2+ WAR catcher, but the BABIP is flat out, out of control.

C’mon, man, no he’s not. Sixto’s no more an injury risk than any other guy that throws serious gas.

He literally missed half a year last year and the beginning of this year because we were being careful with his elbow after last year. I’m not saying he’s a tommy john waiting to happen but given his size and previous elbow inflammation he’s certainly more risky than going with someone like trammel from the reds as the centerpiece

        • Sixto’s no more an injury risk than any other guy that throws serious gas ... and missed almost all of last season with elbow inflammation and then a sore shoulder. And then participated in extended spring as the team tried to rework his delivery.

          • Adam Conley’s been terrible this year.

Watching him pitching and Alfaro trying to catch his pitches is so frustrating

There was no way Donnie was taking Conley out before the lead was lost even though he clearly had NOTHING working

              • No matter the lead for the Marlins, this is one of those games that NO lead ever felt safe.

                • Feels like we’re totally gonna lose.

Here comes Tayron Guerrero for a 5-out save apparently...

                      • I’d way rather the winning streak end with like a 9-2 final score. This game has been brutal to watch.

I mean, EVERYONE that pitched for us tonight sucked. You could argue that Brice was just meh and didn’t suck but he gave up 2 hits in less than an inning.

                        • This front office has shown 0 ability to know when to trade guys. I said it right after the trade deadline passed last year, there is 0 excuse as to why they didn’t trade Conley and steckenrider last year. And the argument that we should keep giving abs to Prado and granderson and Castro to try to flip them at the deadline is so stupid. Nobody wants that trash and all your doing is preventing yourself from getting more of an opportunity to evaluate the actual young talent on the roster for the future

I wouldn't put Castro in the same category as Prado and Granderson. Castro has had a bad year, but there has to be a hot streak coming. He didn't just forget how to hit. Also, I don't want to rush Isan Diaz up here, so I'm fine with giving Starlin another month to get it figured out.

Granderson has actually been fine over the past 7-10 games now that he's not starting everyday. Prado never had value, especially making $15 million this year. They are just going to have to ride that one out.

I agree with Prado. He has to go. He should be DFA'd today for Riddle.. Granderson I think you can keep around another few weeks until Berti is healthy, or it's time to bring Brinson up, or call up Diaz up. They have the room.

Castro has a .247 BABIP, is 29, in a free agency year (does have an option but still), and has a track record. Someone will take a gamble on him for a single A bullpen arm if he shows even a little bit, and especially if they eat some salary.

                              • Castro is probably fair, it’s just been infuriating he way they’ve handled the development of prospects and the evaluation of fringe prospects. It’s one think not to call up Ramirez and dean if you have Stanton Ozuna and Yelich, but the trash they’ve been throwing out there rather than evaluating young guys is absolutely maddening
