I love being reminded of how many bad trades the front office has had since 2014.

      • On the latest Craig Mish podcast he mentions that they are already getting trade calls on Urena and Romo. He brought up an interesting point that the trade deadline could be very active this year because there is no August trade window anymore. Teams could be looking to deal earlier. Given how well Urena has pitched lately, I wonder if talks will pick up quicker than usual. He didn't mention any teams that are in on Urena, but he said the Rays could be interested in bringing Romo back as an opener.

          Jorge Alfaro: 5.6 BB%, 36.4 K%,

And? Alfaro needs to be the one getting the majority of the at bats. It does nobody any good to have him sitting on the bench.

No question that Wallach has done a nice job in his role, but he's a backup catcher...that's his ceiling.

That's great. I mean Urena is around for 7-8 starts more max, so they might as well move him now if the package is acceptable. Give Elisier some starts (he's earned it) and Gallen's super2 clock is going to be up in 3-4 weeks so there is another natural replacement.

I've always wondered why teams mostly wait until mid July to trade. I mean, if you're going to be good, you should want the extra 6 weeks out of a player.

Minnesota lines up perfectly for Urena and Romo in a combo. They need to keep the pressure on Cleveland before they get healthy, have a lot of young longterm bats, need another SP and bullpen arm, and can move their non-top prospects for those two as it's not like Urena and Romo bring a king's ransom.

https://blogs.fangraphs.com/top-41-p...nnesota-twins/. I think any of their top 6-12 guys, and two more guys 20-35 range makes a lot of sense for everyone.

              • Rooker and Jeffers for Urena and Romo would be ok with me.

I mean there's no "and" I was just showing the numbers. I do believe that Alfaro must play every day, but also he could K less and walk more. The thing that impresses me the most is that Wallach was the same dude that stroke out 9 times in 10 ABs last years. He's playing really well this year

No need to be defensive at all. There's no way anyone could actually watch Alfaro at the plate over the course of this early season and say, "Wow, I think we've got something there!" He's a wild hacker, pure and simple.

He's a wild hacker that produces a little. We've seen wild hackers that don't produce at all. *COUGHBrinson* He's still only 25, and you would hope plate discipline is something he can improve on. Even so he has over 650 major league at-bats, and put up a .739 OPS. He seems to be pretty good defensively. If he can just maintain his current major league numbers that's an above average major league starting catcher.

It's all hypothetical, but I was thinking Jeffers too as they are going to commit to Garver/Astudillo, and Alcala is a total Mike Hill reliever type. Past that, I was thinking any other FV40 or better bullpen lefty and that's starting to turn into a solid package for those two.

Just saying, Minnesota lines up well and this wouldn't prevent them from getting another big name if they really go for it.

It's hard to knock a guy with a 3.5 career WAR in 651 PA. That's "great."

The BABIP is .395. So call him a 2+ WAR player when that normalizes. You take that a heartbeat at catcher. He was a fine 2nd/3rd player in that deal depending on how much one likes Stewart.

                        • you keep talking about Alfaro's BABIP normalizing and it will to an extent, but this seems to just kind of be who he is. He's had a relatively high BABIP his entire career because of the type of player he is. He k's a ton and hits the shit out of the ball when he actually makes contact. I dont think youre gonna see much normalzing for him, or for that matter much improvement from what he is now. He's a decent MLB catcher, but as a 2nd piece in a JT deal he leaves a lot to be desired compared to the names we were discussing in a JT deal all winter. He's not bad, but he is a 3rd piece in a JT deal, not a 2nd, especially when the first piece is a huge injury risk.

In advance of the Marlins series against the Nationals - Miami has called up Catcher Bryan Holaday. I’m unclear what Chad Wallach’s status is. Club will announce.

Did Wallach or Alfaro get hurt? They'll have to make a 40 man roster move I think.

UPDATE...Wallach on the IL with a concussion. Galloway DFA'd, and Holaday called up.
