while I'm sure money played a part in it, it's worth noting that I heard on very good authority (and lived near NC State at the time) that Rodon refused to take a pre-draft physical for the Marlins, which is within his rights to do but did concern them.

Also it's worth noting that he's injured too, and he hasn't been all that good when he's been healthy

Ya they had alot of issues with Rodon. #1 Wanted some crazy amount to sign. #2 Some in the FO thought he was a RP and #3 Like u said about the injury stuff they tried to check him out he said NO but they got other another teams report/info that said something might be up

While he hasn't been great, he would probably be the best pitcher in the marlins rotation right now and still has top of the rotation potential. Trea Turner was also a guy we were interested in. The marlins picked the only guy in the top 10 who ended up signing who either hasnt been in the Majors yet or isnt a top prospect.

Edit- Alex Jackson by the mariners at 6 was also a bust but the point stands.

The guys they wanted were Brady Aiken,Trea Turner and Aaron Nola especially since they could have gotten Nola for a discount. They passed on both because well the Fish love 2 things and they are LHP and power arms who throw 100+. Trea Turner started the year at #1/#2 but looked like crap and fell quick.

Aiken is who they thought they would get cause Kolek to Houston made sense however if he couldn't pass a Houston physical-NO CHANCE in HELL he would have passed ours especially since this was when our doctors were going crazy rejecting guys.

They liked Alex Jackson but didn't think he could stick at C and no point in drafting another OF with ours set for years already. Jackson showing serious power tho this year,8HR in FSL already. By way before u say they could have drafted him-we don't take the BPA like most others do. We take guys who fit our FO type while most teams look at the BPA ask price and if close they pick
