Thinking about it, Phelps as our #5 and ellington up and in the bullpen might be better than what we have with Rea and no Ellington when Bour comes back.

I don't know if I want Phelps as a starter because I think part of the reason he's been good this year is because he's only pitching an inning or two per outing.

I don't either, but I think I like Phelps starting and Ellington out of the bullpen better than Rea starting, Phelps in the bullpen, and Ellington in the minors because we won't get rid of Dunn.

If it's worth anything, official reports are that Rea is just day-to-day and that Chen is expected back in September.

If Chen "is expected back in September" we will see him next season after surgery. That's my hot take.
