              I like the first part.

To be fair, tommy said he should have slid. There was no way to slide without sliding into the catcher.

Kinda felt bad for the umps too

@MLB let's make all plays force outs-
That is where we are headed

Those plays are different. In the one on the left he doesn't move in front of the plate (front in this case being where the third base line would ultimately meet the plate) until he has the ball and on the right he is there before he gets it. It's just how the rule describes them. It's pretty freakin dumb, but based on the rule, I think that's correct (one out, one safe)

They're both out. I hate rules.

The vine doesn't show it but Mathis was lined up behind the plate until the ball was thrown and then he had to move to get the ball (a move allowed under the current rule).

I actually see a difference between both plays, but how is Mathis supposed to catch the ball without "blocking the plate?" Is he supposed to just let the ball go?

Listen I understand what they want Mathis to do on that play, move into fair ground to catch the ball and then get back and make a tag.

The problem is, Mathis was not in the spot to even block the plate. I don't think most people understand how hard it is to catch a short-hop in a catchers mitt. He got into a spot that gave him the best shot to field that throw. If you're not going to allow the catcher to get into the best position for them to field a throw with a runner baring down him than the game is broken.

Also, they clearly need to change this rule, but changing it back to the way it was before would be stupid.
