  • yet again it happens. it is just so unbelievably dumb that every broadcast has the pitch placement available immediately after every pitch so everyone watching can see what is a ball or strike and we are still relying on the 1 middle aged man behind the plate. please make it stop. why are we doing this to the fans and the umpires behind the plate every night. It's a no win situation for them.

    • Sandy's last 2 outings combined vs the cardinals- 16.1 IP, 0 ER, 13 k's. no runs scored by the marlins

      • Arenado got completely owned all night by Sandy and then that

The decision to not acquire a real closer is inexcusable

        • If there was ever a game that showed the FO didn’t do enough this off-season this was it.

100% truth. Mattingly needs to go, that's the 1st step, 2nd Ng needs to be out by end of June if no significant turnaround. Boycotting the games....hmmmm, people already are doing that I guess by indifference. It's just sad that South Fla has had to endure these bad owners and the national media blames the fans....I never get that

Yep. It was obvious to everyone that they needed a closer and at least one big bat, they went shopping at the bargain bin, and here we are.

their refusal to get quality bullpen arms and instead rely on retreads has been maddening for years now. There are tons of guys available yearly with proven track records out of the bullpen who are available for relatively small deals who would easily provide more stability out of the pen. but they continue to penny pinch and already this year its cost them what, 3 games in the first 11? This could easily be 7-4 instead of 4-7 if they weren't so fucking cheap.

Also, they need to fully platoon cooper and aguilar, use the other one as a bench bat, and bring up lewin diaz. See what he can do at the ML level and if he can be our long term 1b. He has nothing left to prove at the minor league level and he deserves a chance. Aguilar and cooper are the same bat. Just platoon them at DH and use the other off the bench every night. Lewin has a pure power that can help this lineup and he really wasn't bad last year in his limited major league opportunities.

                • Minor league updates-

Braxton garrett with another nice outing in AAA. He has good numbers but he feels like the next justin nicolino. AAAA pitcher because his velocity disappeared and he doesn't miss enough bats. Reliever Jake Fishman seems to be one to watch in AAA. this guy they got Leblanc in the minor league rule 5 draft I think has been really good. Might overtake Wade for the best Leblanc in marlins history. Leblanc, Diaz, and Burdick all are not only looking good but they are showing really good plate discipline. All walking a ton. Bleday has been terrible but he walks a lot as well. Joe Dunand with a nice start as well.

Meyer has been tremendous and will be up here soon, Dayton has been good and will get some big league time this year. The fringe bullpen arms have been terrible- Holloway, Campbell, Brigham, Eveld have all been bad. Zach Pop has been lights out. Surprised neidert wasn't claimed but he's only pitched .2 innings for them.

In Pensacola- Griffin conine starting the year 6 for 43 with 23 k's, 1 BB, and a .412 OPS. Jerar with a lot of power but a ton of k's as well. Bryan Hoeing might not be in AA long. Josh Simpson with some super impressive early numbers out of the bullpen in AA. Paul Mcintosh is impressive, lets see if he keeps it up.

In Beloit, Nasim nunez is hitting .029 on the year with a .219 OPS so far. Will Banfield still can't hit. Early pick last year morissette has been bad as well. Dax Fulton has been roughed up in his first few starts. Looks like Sean Reynolds is a full time pitcher now.

In Jupiter- Watson with a great year so far but striking out too much. once he improves that he will be up in Beloit. Brady allen has been solid and Jose Salas doesn't have overwhelming numbers but he has impressed. Osiris Johnson just cant hit, seems like a release candidate soon. Only real pitcher of note there is Luis Palacios who will be in Beloit soon enough.

It's weird to me that you can get bullpen arms for relatively cheap in FA, and at the trade deadline they become valuable resources that teams tend to pay for with legitimate prospects. A smart team would stock up regardless of whether they thought they were a contender or not. The Marlins, however refuse to spend almost anything on the position.

The Marlins are totally going to put Meyer in the pen when he comes up, right? If the Marlins were contenders, that would be a fine move considering they don't have a closer. But for a noncompetitive team, or a team that needs to make up a lot of ground, while also looking toward the future, he should be only developed as a starter unless it gets to the point that he doesn't look like a long term answer there. I just have zero trust in this organization to put together and execute the correct plan.

Put Hernandez in the pen. Bring up Meyer. Get Lewin up and send Berti out. Wendle is a much better version of Berti. Let Rojas be the righty off the bench. Anderson, Wendle and Jazz should be in the lineup daily.

I certainly hope not but I too have no trust in them to do the right thing. I cant imagine they are so stupid that they would do that though. Sixto I think comes back as the closer if he's ever healthy and Cabrera due to numbers might be a back end bullpen guy just because there is no room in the rotation. Id let him build up his arm in AAA though. he's had an injury each of the last few years so I want to see him get some innings.

agreed. Lewin should be up here playing everyday. Aguilar since the beginning of august last year has been the least powerful 1b/DH in terms of ISO. Let him be a nice bench bat or split time with him at DH with cooper. And if the struggles of Garcia continue and burdick keeps mashing in AAA for another month, he shouldn't be far behind. He was an older draft pick so he's already in his mid 20s, let the kids play everyday if this is going to be the alternative.

                            • Money rules. Soler and Garcia will remain in the lineup regardless of how poorly they perform because of their contracts. We will see no Burdick or LeBlanc as a result.

The money thing came up in spring training a couple years ago. I asked a Marlins asst coach why Bleday was assigned to Jup (High A) while Burdick went to Low A. (This in light of the fact that Burdick was outhitting Bleday big time in back field action, according to that same coach.) His answer was a smile while rubbing his thumb and pointer finger together ... all about the money.

One of Cooper or Aguilar need to go. De La Cruz needs to play more as well. Let Soler and Garcia take turns DH'ing
