Because we’d rather pitch Tommy Nance and some guy named Ladwig. If any Marlins fan is half paying attention it’s clear the FO doesn’t give a shit.

        • Not sure if they are doing it consciously or just playing the kids in the minors, but the bottom 6 teams in the league go to a lottery to determine the first 6 picks in the draft next year. We’re only 3 games ahead of the 6th worst team currently. Maybe they sneak in a way to get the first pick next year

          • I went to the night game yesterday. Great atmosphere (especially in Sections 1-3) but a dog shit product on the field.

I’ll be going to Dominican heritage night in every year (and I’m Italian-American heritage). It’s a huge party.

Went to the game again tonight. Another very good crowd for a Monday night. Place went nuts when Sandy struck out Soto and Miggy made a sweet play. Bledays HR landed near us.

Wasn’t shocked we had to sweat the 9th with Tanner Scott. If they start 2023 with him as the closer we are all fools to spend our free time on the Marlins.

Do others here go to games or do most of you live pretty far away?

not sure who the moron with the team decided that starting games 30 minutes earlier at 640 instead of 710 was a good idea but it pretty much guaranteed I wouldn't go to games during the week. i probably wouldn't go to many to begin with because the product is absolute dog shit but how on earth can you live in Miami or south Florida and know the traffic during rush hour and think moving up the time of the games is a good idea?

I commend you for still going to watch the circus lol. I haven’t been to a game since 2019 and I barely watch the games anymore. They haven’t been worth watching/spending my time or money on. The only way I’d go right now is if friends wanted to, and none of my friends like baseball, so that rarely happens.

I think the idea was so that the games would end earlier in an effort to coax families to come to weekday games. But obviously it has the opposite affect of everyone gets caught in traffic if you’re trying to get there from Broward. But they don’t care about Broward fans anyway.

you are correct about having the games end earlier (it’s also better for kids getting to bed earlier on weekdays when they are watching on TV)

I don’t agree that they don’t care about Broward fans (although your point is legit that the 6:40 start time makes it harder to get to the game on time if you work till 5:00-5:30)

Broward County made it clear 10, 12, 14 years ago that they wanted NOTHING to do with having the ballpark in Broward. That’s on Broward County. Not the Marlins.

I’d like to add that traffic is consistently way worse going north (out of Miami) on I-95 when I’m traveling south on I-95 headed to the ballpark. They also did studies on this before they built Marlins Park.

If they could just resolve the disaster of the Golden Glades. It’s been a serious problem for over 15 years. I’m shocked nothing has been done.

I will also add that I live in Pompano Beach. It took me 35 minutes to get home last night. It took 50 minutes to get to the ballpark (all because of Golden Glades interchange or whatever they call it.

Domincan Heritage night on Saturday and Sandy’s start last night were far from a “circus”. They were both great nights at the ballpark. I really wish more people came out to 2 or 3 games a year. It’s really wild that there are Marlins fans that live in the tri-county area that haven’t been to a game in 3 years.

They could do a better job marketing to Broward; everything from Jeter on has been Miami-focused, and that's understandable to an extent because of the park's location, but still feels like it ignores Broward fans, IMO.

I get that traffic is worse going north (I used to do that commute daily), but I just don't feel like dealing with that much traffic after a full day of work.......they're supposed to redo a lot of the golden glades, but Covid pushed that back.....I think it might be starting next year.

By circus, I was referring to the on-field product overall, not environment. And, it's really only been 2 years, since we couldn't go in 2020......but the team has been unwatchable over the last 2 years. They let the positivity of the 2020 playoffs pass by and did nothing, and the same stupid ineffective moves since. I'm not inclined to spend money/time to see a team out of it after giving up a single 1st inning run.

I completely get the idea but how do you not take into consideration the amount of fans you're preventing from even being able to go to the game by starting it that early. i work in northern broward and live in Deerfield and there is not a chance in hell I can make it to the game on time if I don't leave work early as opposed to 710 I can work a normal day, leave around 5 or even 530 and still make the game.

I agree with the not spending money on the product. i don't see how a sports owner can expect fans to spend their money on tickets and supporting the team if he wont even spend his own money at even a bottom 10 as opposed to bottom 5 level payroll to improve the roster. why would I spend my money to support this shit? It's horrendous to watch.

I'm right there with you. And I guess I can't fault them for trying - attendance was so low already, they probably figured they may as well try something.

They averaged around 1.673M per year for the 5 years before Sherman/Jeter ('13-17), but those were the Loria inflated numbers.

                              Under Sherman, attendance has been:

                              2018: 811,104
                              2019: 811,302
                              2020: ---
                              2021: 642,617
                              2022: 642,995

So 2022 will be higher than 2021, but '21 was also limited by early covid limitations/restrictions.

It'd be one thing if they were winning, so you could overlook the lack of spending. But we have low payroll + no winning.

And what makes it worse is EVERYONE saw the team's issues prior to the season, yet they did nothing to address them.
