July 2021 Game Thread

I’m fine with Sanchise starting Opening Day 2022. Absurd power and a great arm (he’s also very unintentionally entertaining).

He’s not good at fielding balls on the ground and he’s a terrible baserunner but we can’t all be perfect.

agreed. don't want to see aguilar go down but lewin needed to play everyday to get a better evaluation of him and just to give him more experience up here before next year

I understand and agree with them, pitch count was higher and he's third in MLB in innings (188). This is after a lost season where guys didn't pitch a full load. It's a little frustrating, but we sadly need to think big picture and his longterm health is more important.

Honestly, shut him down entirely. This was a nice cap on the season. I'm sure they'll give him 2 more so he gets to 200 innings, but I'd just tell him great season, here's $50m, and let's talk offseason throwing program. We promise to get you some bats next year. Rogers, Luzardo, Hernandez, Cabrera, and Thompson can pitch out the year.

A guy who has thrown 130 more innings than last year, and at 188 for the season, getting over 100 pitches is exactly when someone get hurt. May not have been last night even, it's just massive wear and tear that grinds on arms.

They really should shut him down. These games are meaningless and he's one of the most valuable properties in baseball right now. Show him the money.

In other random musing news on slow days, Marlins probably will get the 5th or 6th, maybe 7th, pick in the draft.

Ahead of them are Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Nationals (they are the other 5th/6th), and they each have top 5 catcher prospects in baseball. Arizona is also ahead and needs everything, and has great MLB level depth at catcher right now. Texas is the other team and they also need everything and will go for pure upside.

Fangraphs currently has this as their top 10 (and beyond it, a slew of more pitchers and 1B/OF corner bats):

High schoolers - 4 guys
College SP - 2 guys
College SS - 1 (Moore, Ark)

and

College C - 2 (Tanner Miss. St, Parada Georgia Tech)
College 3B - 1 (Graham, OK)

If the board stays relatively the same (which I'm sure it won't), it's lining up nicely for the Marlins to get the perfect prospect for them - college player from a major conference at a longterm bat position of need where minor league depth is the lowest.

Hopefully this happens and this is the last top 25 pick for awhile. I really hope all 3 of these guys scorch earth next year as 1-3 have to be available.
