These guys are just more of the same. I thought 3 years at $45-50M would be more than reasonable. That they won’t even consider less than that is sad.

Here's the article. If you're nostalgic for the days we traded everyone away, this article is for you.

      • I guess this is worse than any other team I've watched since 2013 because it crushes you every night. I can't stand Mattingly and his decisions anymore. We pinch hit for Sandy.... just to have our worst hitter at Sandy Leon hit. Like, we didn't have ANYONE else on the bench that would be better?

        • Agreed. These losses are just brutal. And so predictable.

Not keeping Marte would cement the Same Old, Same Old South Florida baseball fan mentality. It would be such an incredibly bad look.

          • We have a higher Run Differential than 19 other teams. We have been remarkably unlucky. Even with this train wreck start to the year, we are projected to ultimately win more games than the Phillies, Nationals and Mariners (who are 3 games over .500).

            • If the Marlins are not sellers at the deadline, prepare yourselves for the Marlins to have a very good 2nd half in the Win/Loss column.

              • I mean one way to have a good run differential and bad record is to have a great pitching staff and no offense. It’s not a coincidence we suck in close games when you don’t give up runs and don’t score runs games are going to be close and our bullpen is worse than most teams so once our starter goes out we’re at a disadvantage.

                • Losing a lot of 1 run games is indicative of bad luck.

I wonder if there's somewhere that has splits on our bullpen in close games vs. larger leads. I feel like the bullpen has been bad in close games, but then lights out if there's a little separation. Which would be a big reason for the terrible 1-run game record.

I don't know, I just can't see us stringing 5 or 6 wins in a row together with the lineup as is, and it's not like the guys in our lineup have underperformed I feel, I just think this is what the lineup is, and yes injuries have hurt,, but everyone's dealt with injuries.

At some point we have to go over the "bad luck" excuse and start realizing that we only lose 1 run games because we can't score, our bullpen can't keep leads and our manager makes terrible calls. I can't remember any "luck" involved in most of our loses, just the Marlins failing to execute in either pitching or hitting.

Yeah. I mean, a bunch of one run losses and good run differential with a bad record usually do point to bad luck, but if you look at Miami’s issues, I think that’s just a symptom of this team’s deficiencies. If you have a really good SP group, but can’t hit, that’s what’s going to happen. If you add an unreliable bullpen, and a manager that continues to make poor in-game decisions, that’s exactly what you’re going to end up with.

                        • don mattingly needs to go. its not all on him, but a significant part is on him. for years he has shown he has no clue how to manage without the DH and has no idea how to use his bullpen correctly. this year has been horrendous from him.

The run differential is nice to hang the hat on to say we are better than this, but at this point we really arent. our pitching is almost always terrific and some days we score 12 runs and win and others we go 4 games at a time where we cant hit. that's why our run differential is still positive, at this point it's not because we are this blossoming team who will turn it around over 162 games. At this point its just because we have a wildly inconsistent offense. We need Sanchez and Jazz to produce, Bleday to come up and be a middle of the order presence, re-sign marte, and then sign 1 big contract to anchor the offense. As of right now we have a collection of solid bats who are inconsistent and never get hot at the right time. All year the lineup has been hot at different times. Jazz carries us for a few weeks, then its duvall, then marte, then aguilar, but never enough consistency collectively.

107 and 90 Wrc+ is terrible. I have no trust in him.

he's got an .856 OPS with 4 HR's and 11/5 K/BB ratio in June after starting horrendously in May after not playing in a real game for almost 1.5 years. He will be fine. He has clear pure power, obvious plate discipline, and is good in the field. We will see what his numbers look like as the sample size increases.
