It's been mentioned exactly nowhere, but the Marlins didn't need the expanded playoff field to make it to the postseason this year! Under the regular ten-team structure, the Marlins earned a wild card spot and would have been playing San Diego tomorrow in a one-game playoff. Because of injuries to the San Diego staff, it is likely that the Marlins would have been facing none other than Chris Paddock.

As Ozuna finishes the regular season barely missing a triple crown, I muse about the Marlins signing him to something like a three year, $60M deal. He was such a popular Marlin ... truly great guy. That would conclude the trade to SL nicely. Alcantara in the rotation, Chisholm at SS (for Gallen), Sierra as reserve OF, and Castano in the pen.

Has Sixto Sanchez been named as game two starter? I don't have a huge problem with that ... IF the Marlins win the series opener. However, if game one is lost, you have to turn to Lopez. Lopez won twice as many games as any other Marlin pitcher this season and is actually the team MVP for 2020. You don't make the playoffs and leave him on the pine. No way, no how.
Addendum: Actually, the more I think about it, the more ridiculous this becomes. Should be Pablo in game one and Alcantara in game two. Over their last three starts, Lopez has clearly been the best. And if it goes to game three, I'd consider Trevor Rogers as a three inning opener and then Sanchez.Last edited by Lee Stone; 09-30-2020, 04:20 AM.

I got the marlins in the series at +185. Im much happier facing hendricks rather than darvish in game 1. both great pitchers but i feel like we can possibly make some noise against hendricks potentially and darvish feels like a pretty easy quality start from him.
