It's like you want us to ignore the fact that Anibal Sanchez has been the only good starter this year not named Javy Vazquez, who's likely to retire.
We finished 10th in runs allowed and 11th in runs scored. However, we have more hopes for internal improvement and more options in the field than we do in starting pitching.

It's pretty fucking simple why a starter is the number 1 priority.

Is that like a "high five, I agree with you" post?

      • The Marlins' pitching staff finished with a 3.95 ERA, second-best in club history (3.83 in 1997).
Chris Volstad ends Florida Marlins' run at Sun Life Stadium with 3-1 loss to Nationals

Second best team ERA is franchise history behind a Championship team. Just saying.

I'm not saying we don't need a starter. I just think we need to focus on the hitters more.

Isn't he the Marlins' bullpen coach? That would explain it.

Runs scored per game in the NL this year was 4.13.

              In 2003 it was 4.61.

The 4.13 is by far the lowest in the NL since the Marlins joined the league. Relatively speaking, runs are harder to come by right now than at any point in the Marlins' history.

I don't think anyone thinks this is the worst offense in Marlins' history. Similarly, I don't think anyone could possibly think this is the 2nd best pitching staff in Marlins history.

Throwing out numbers like that without taking context into account is stupid.

You need 5 starting pitchers. Going into next year we have 4 with any experience, with one who is a likely non-tender candidate and one who can't stay healthy. That's the number priority this offseason, because we have far less hope for internal improvement, barring Chris Volstad suddenly becoming as good as you seem to be. Starting pitching is absolutely the number one priority in free agency.

I think we were all joking.

+ that # looks decent because of the bullpen.

The starting rotation had a 4.24 ERA, and we ended up having to get a lot of innings out of the bullpen.

The rotation wasn't good this year.
Now we're going into next season +Josh Johnson (for who knows how long), Anibal/Ricky, and potentially -Javy Vazquez.
                    We definitely need pitching.
