From Historia Floridium Marlinii:
In the year of Pendletonius and Ripkenius, two men by the name of Huizengaius and Bargerius founded a small settlement in Floridium Inferior. Both men were both of good standing throughout the cities to the north. Bargerius, a veteran of many great wars, had left Pittsburgia, then a thriving city both militarily and financially, on good terms. Huizengaius had attained his fame by leading a legion of men in green to victory over the Garbagii. Legends holds that one day, the two became engaged in an argument on the construction of a new outfield wall meant to protect the city. Bargerius jokingly hit a flyball over the wall. Huizengaius in a bloody rage murdered Bargerius. Exclaiming, "So perish every one that shall hereafter hit a ball over my wall." With that fatal turn of events, the Floridium fell behind Huizengaius for leadership. He set forth to create an army to defend his new settlement. The new army, initially comprised of the aged and invalid, soon grew to a respectable lot made up of mercenaries from all over Americana Superior. Overnight the Floridiums, nicknamed Marlinii, got the attention of their nearest neighbors to the north, the Atlantii.
Atlantium, once a poor community, had just attained regional dominance under the leadership of Tedturnerius, Scherholtzian I and Bobbius Coxian. With their army led by a three headed monster known as Maddux, Glavinius and Smoltzii and the Pan-American network of Teebee Es legionaries, Atlantium controlled the Nationolinius League. Early in the history of Floridium, the two cities did not engage militarily in any serious battles, however, it was soon clear to everyone that this volatile peace would not last.
In the year of Walkerus and Griffius, war finally broke out. A series of memorable battles would now entrench both sides in a bloody and costly war. Early in what is now known as the Nationolinius Pennanticus War, Alexander Fernandicus, one of the few men of local origin, was fallen on the battlefield. The legionaries and the citizens of Floridium Inferior rallied behind the loss of a local legend. The Marlinii would now have to win their battle over the three-headed monster short-handed. In the battle of Jobus Robbius, Livinicus of the nearby island of Cubania, struck down 15 legions on the fifth day of the battle. Livinicus would later claim he received favor from Ericisius Greggian, the god of boundaries and borders, after being instructed to paint the sign of #34 on the shields of his men. The Marlinii would soon tear through what was left of the Atlantium legions. In the final battle deep in Atlantium territory, in the field known as Tunerium, Kevinicus Brownicus ended the war with nine masterful strokes.
