Remember when no one liked Gaby?

No, because that never happened. Everyone just believed he would be a .280/.350/.450 , 20-80 type of bat, with marginal defense, which overall, is a well below average for 1B. Compare that to Morrison, who everyone believed would be a .300/.400/.500, 25-100, type guy (in time anyways), with better defense at 1B, the rationale was, why even bother with Gaby and let's get a slugging LF in free agency. It was never anything against Gaby, it was just really liking Morrison and striving to make a perfect roster centered around the guys with star potential - Hanley, Stanton, Morrison, lesser extent Coghlan and Dominguez because of their position scarcity.

If anything can be said about Marlins fans being 'wrong' about Gaby, is that we collectively undervalued the value of a solid .800 OPS bat in the lineup regardless of the position. Especially at club controlled prices. He may not match the production of 20+ other 1B in the league (even though he is having an awesome start to 2011), but he is certainly a strong MLB player and we are lucky to have him. He fits into this team very well. The lesson to be learned is, don't try to make the perfect roster until you're really good and literally a prime contender. This team is still in the growing and fringe contender phase. If you have this type of player, make it work in whatever configuration you can. The Marlins have, and are being rewarded for it. Just wasn't a no one like Gaby situation. He's cool, but is still "is who he is."
