  • It hasn’t been this fun being a Marlins fan since Jose Fernandez starts. If we get down to the wire and we can smell a playoff spot, I wonder if the FO would consider trying Max Meyer as our set up man. *I don’t even know his current status

    Let’s get full wild.

I find it odd that we've heard absolutely nothing about how he's doing in Jupiter. Before the draft I saw many experts get asked which player could contribute immediately at the big league level, and Meyer was the name that kept coming up, they thought he could immediately step in and help someone's bullpen.

It will be Urena or Neidert.

ALL the guys on IL-Urena/Neidert/Holloway/Brigham/Northcraft/Stanek/Rodriguez/Harold are ready to come back the problem is they dont wanna DFA anyone yet. Castano/Josh A Smith/Leibrandt havent looked bad. Brinson all of a sudden has hit. Soon as 1 of them stinks up the place they gone

Shafer likely gets the DFA to make room for 1 of them with Elieser to 10Day

A positive about the ROna DL is they can stay on as long as team wants them too

Marlins dont wanna DFA younger arms like Dugger/Castano/Holloway/Guzman and like Brigham/Stanek/Northcraft but where do they play? U got Bleier/Hoyt/Vincent in 7th,Box in 8th and Kintzler in 9th which is why u didnt see they get crazy at deadline.

They could have had Archie Bradley for Monte or even another OF but passed

Love the deals we made yesterday. We hugely upgraded from Villar, somehow improved our minor league system, and only gave up Caleb Smith. That's a win folks.

Also, I called us acquiring Marte about 3 weeks ago. (who remembers?)

Calling up Jazz, and hearing that he'll play 2B is curious considering the news we heard on Isan yesterday, no?
        Isan isnt in shape

Jazz is likely the SS in 2021 but Rojas is there for now.

        2021 MIF on 40 man

        2B-Isan/Berti/Devers
        SS-Jazz/Rojas

Pretty good depth chart and they all can play 2B or SS minus Isan

        - - - - - - - - - -

        2021(40 MAN)

        C-Alfaro/Wallach
        1B-Lewin/Aguilar
        2B-Isan/Berti/Devers
        SS-Jazz/Rojas
        3B-BA
        LF-Dickerson/Harold
        CF-Marte/Monte/Sierra
        RF-Jesus/Jerar/Coop

        SP-Sandy/Sixto/Pablo/Elieser/Rogers/Garrett/Cabrera/Neidert/Urena/Castano

        RP-Dugger/Vesia/Tarp/Bleier/Hoyt/Brigham/Stanek/Steck/Holloway/Yamamoto/Roberson/Guzman/Yimi/Kintzler

NOT saying all these guys stick but this is our 40 man next year(RIGHT now) and we probably have 10-15 million to spend if wanted too. Def will be signing 2 or 3 vets like usual

        • I'd DFA Holloway, Shafer, Brinson to get Neidert, Brigham and Harold here. Keep Urena in limbo until he's needed. Give Neidert first shot at the rotation.

Likely is DFA Shafer for a SP and Brinson/Alvarez eventually for Harold and a RP. They kinda need Brinson to help in CF with Monte and Jesus down and Sierra out

They like Holloway's stuff and were getting some hits on him at deadline so probably lose him for a PTBNL(Not saying its bad just that dont think they ready yet)

Arms getting DFA wil be Leibrandt and Josh A Smith. Just no point if theylook good which they do right now

            • brinson has hit much better the last few weeks of course once it looked like we were gonna have to DFA him. id keep him through the rest of the year just to see if he finally becomes remotely productive. his numbers still suck but he's at least crushing lefties albeit in an extremely small 20 AB sample.

Id do this when we're healthy

              C- Alfaro/Wallach
              1b- Aguilar/Lewin
              2b- Isan
              SS- Rojas
              3b- Anderson
              LF- Dickerson
              CF- Marte
              RF- Cooper
DH- Joyce/Harold/Brinson/Lewin/whoever the hot bat is
Backups- Joyce, Wallach, Brinson, Harold, Berti. Then go 15 pitchers rather than spltting it 14/14. no need for 14 bats.

SP- Sixto, Sandy, Elieser (? lats can be month long injuries especially for a pitcher), Pablo, Urena, then Rogers and Cabrera out of the pen for double headers/spot start/injury replacements.
RP- Kintzler, Boxburger, Bleier, Rogers, cabrera, Neidert, yimi vincent, Hoyt, Vesia, Stanek if he comes back? maybe Brigham as well.

              • Rogers has to stay in the rotation until he falters at least. Giving meaningful starts to Urena down the stretch scares the crap out of me, so unless they see a complete turnaround from last year down in Jupiter, I'd rather not.

Either Neidert or Urena will have to step in behind Lopez, Rogers, Sanchez and Alcantara. Alcantara worries me most. Rogers has been the biggest revelation, achieving a .4WAR with just two starts. Walks have been the only pitfall, but his 5/1 K/W ratio last season suggests that shouldn't be an ongoing problem. There has been almost no solid contact off him thus far. Hernandez injury is very untimely. We haven't heard a word on Max Meyer, who was said to be the most Major League ready pitcher in the draft.

Sure don't want to see Dugger again.

                  • I'm pretty sure Rogers' velocity is up from what little I saw of him last year.

it was in the first game but i read he was 1-2 mph slower in the second game so it might have been either a faulty radar gun in the first game or adrenaline. he still reminds me of andrew miller on the mound in terms of imposing presence from the left hand side.

Back to the roster crunch conversation- is the issue who to DFA for the 28 man roster or the 40 man because a lot of the guys we are mentioning have options. I also would be completely ok with DFA'ing dugger

                      • Yeah I don't think you can have both Duggar and Castano taking up spots on the 40-Man.

                          • Quick site update:

Having some difficulty hooking up on the phone with our IT guy but should hopefully resolve that this week.

It turns out we actually upgraded to vBulletin 5 (the latest version) in 2015. (Neither Festa nor I remember this.) Looking back, when we upgraded from vb3 (at the time) to vb5, it broke the site. Instead we settled on vb4, which is where we are now. Disappointingly, it seems the spam redirect that was occurring before the upgrade continued after that upgrade. We've been dealing with that for more than 5 years!

I've now disabled and deleted every plug-in on the site as those are usually to blame for these hacking issues. Most won't be missed. I do believe that Tapatalk may not work anymore as of now -- I'm sorry about that. (If disabling and deleting these plug-ins doesn't fix the issue, I'll re-add Tapatalk since that would mean it wasn't the issue.)

In light of the information about the last upgrade, we are at a point with 3 choices:

                            1) Try to upgrade to vb5 again and hope not to break the site. If we do break the site, we would revert to our vb4 backup, meaning the site would be down a few hours but then we'd be in exactly our same position. This would be free.
                            2) Switch from vbulletin to another forum software like Invision. We should be able to transfer all posts and user accounts. The plus is that doing so would give us access to support (as we'd be new customers). The downside is that it is slightly costlier ($275) and requires a renewal every 6 months if we want to have access to security patches and updates.
                            3) Switch from vbulletin to a free solution. Pros: free. Cons: fewer features.

My personal suggestion is to try the options in the order listed. Vbulletin is already bought and paid for so we may as well try another install and see if it solves our problems. If not, I think the next best would be to go with something that costs money but gives us tech support so we can get this thing sorted out.

If and when we could use financial help, I will update you all. Hopefully the fix will be a vbulletin upgrade and we'll be able to save our money.

                            • Villar is the dumbest baseball player I've seen.

                              • that was so peak villar. he's a good bottom of the order spark plug but he is so wreckless way too often

one thing i love about sixto is that you can tell he is so confident in his stuff that it leads to him being ultra efficient with his pitch count. you dont see that often out of young pitchers. he pretty much goes out there saying i know i have 3 nasty pitches and dares hitters to hit it.

the yelich trade obviously sucks so far but one thing i think this front office has done well is use their lack of talent in the organization the last few years to take shots on guys from teams that were cheap or had 40 man roster crunches and then flipped those pieces for more talent. did it buying villar for nothing and turning 30 games of him into a decent prospect in conine. then getting cooper and caleb smith was a complete steal for a decent pitcher in michael king. cooper is a legit really good hitter when healthy and they got 2 decent to good years out of caleb smith and turned him into two years of marte. those are the types of moves that can really help in a rebuild and while they dont produce stars, they really give quality depth when all the prospects start to come up.
