love that isan is coming back even though it seems like rules are being made up as we go considering we were specifically told he was not allowed to come back this year.
For the rest of the year:
C- Alfaro
1b- Aguilar/Lewin
2b- Isan
SS- Rojas
3b- Anderson
LF- Dickerson
CF- Marte
RF- Sanchez/Harold
DH- Cooper
SP- Sixto, Sandy, Pablo, Urena, Elieser, Neidert/Cabrera spot starting
Not bad at all. SP will have to carry us but i think that group is capable of doing it.

Also, Hill mentioned that they didn't make the Marte trade to have him for 30 days, which obviously means that they will pick up his option next year. That's not a surprise, but good to hear.

Exactly. He's a free player with a pretty good amount of upside...potentially getting Jeff Conine back in the organization and more involved is a plus as well.

It's hard not to like what the Marlins did. Going into today, I was hoping they'd be both buyers and sellers, taking advantage of what appeared to be a big time seller's market. They did that, and it actually didn't end up being much of a seller's market in the end, save for a couple of deals that seemed to net overpayments. The Padres added a bunch, though, without giving up any of their top prospects. The Marlins still did a good job dealing away from positions of strength netting a much needed bat that hits lefties really well, and will be here at least this year and next with the opportunity to deal him at the deadline next year if they're out of it. Smith has had some bright moments for us, but he has been trending downward, so to get value for him is great. It hurts to lose Mejia because I think he's going to be a good reliever, but they have some other guys in the system that could also be good relievers.
Like I said earlier, in a perfect world they could have added to the pen, but adding a solid OF prospect and a good all around ML OF when the only player you gave up that hurts in any way is a RP prospect, I don't see how anyone can't be satisfied with that.
I like how this FO has thought outside the box in two straight deadlines. Time will tell whether the moves work out, but twice in a row they haven't really painted themselves as sellers or buyers, necessarily, but have been opportunistic.

the more i look at the deal the more i love the marte addition. he is what we hoped villar would be. a legit leadoff or #2 guy who steals bases without being wreckless and plays a decent CF. one thing im interested in is if they keep both him AND dickerson for next year. that would be 20 million combined from those two guys while also having them at our deepest prospect position. it would help if we kept the DH for next year but still wondering what they do with the two of them. the majority of the team would be playing for the minimum but still interesting to wonder about.

Haven't gotten to way in today but I like the Marlins deals today. They got some pieces for at least trying a run this year and they got a piece for the future without digging deep into the farm...
Jeter's crew is finally making deals the old guard didn't. I've been pretty much on board with all the deals made in the past few years even the ones that failed in retrospect (Yelich)

given the uncertain economic times id try to sign villar to a 3-4 year mid sized deal. he would be a nice contingency plan at a number of positions.

This guy really knocked it out of the park today!
I wish I wasn’t moving into a new place today and I could have see all of this amazing-ness in real time!

namaste do you actually ever post anything of substance? i also told you over two years ago that they were doing really well on the rebuild and that they would have a pitching surplus that they would be able to deal from and you said they didnt.
They were able to get starling marte because the dbacks are out of it and are cheap as hell and werent going to pick up his option for next year, not because they were so enamored by caleb smith's inconsistency and injury proneness.

AL exec said #Diamondbacks are signalling that will not pick up $12.5M option for 2021 on Starling Marte, so best deal by 4pm will get him. As I reported yesterday #Yankees #Marlins #Twins were seen as most probable destinations. #TickTock

also, i would have been fine with a villar extension but they did even better. they were able to get an obviously better player for very little, who is only under contract for 1 more year, whose number for next year you already know so you eliminate any potential free agency uncertainty. they did better than what i suggested but i also would have been fine with a rojas type extension for villar.

You may have been fine with keeping Villar around, but the Marlins organization sure didn't want him. Lack of timely hitting, shaky defense, poor discipline on the bases ... no thanks. The fact that Villar had nearly zero trade value reflected the league-wide view of him.
