  • Marlins getting ready for that push!!

Traded Chad Smith for Jesus Tinoco

Tinoco has more talent and has pitched in Majors but pretty much a straight swap. Chad Smith is a younger(25) Touchdown Tommy with a 95 FB and iffy control

Now onto Tinoco. 25 6'4 265lbs SP/RP but been RP last 2 years. Sinker/FB with ZERO control and has 1 option left so will go to Jupiter for now

We now have 59 guys on our 40 man roster

Multiple guys have passed tests right now its about building them back up and figuring out the roster. They dont wanna call back all at once/trying to do something like a guy plays and then gets DFA. Dont forget tons of games over next few weeks

Also once guys are taken OFF the 60 man pool they are done for the year so they dont wanna DFA Josh Smith or Venditte and then have to take them off 60 man pool then need an arm again. Tons of moving parts

59 guys on 40 man roster
80-90 guys have been on or in our 60 man pool

Marlins have the last claiming spot now so DFA guys hard to get but

Christian Arroyo(IF) claimed by Boston and Edgar Garcia who owns the Marlins was DFA

Wouldnt mind Garcia getting a look actually-only 23 has good stuff but no control. Hopefully someone claims him cause we cant hit the kid

    • tjfla, does the golden boy (Mejia) start for us Saturday? I can't imagine that he wouldn't, but it's the Marlins.

The inside scoop on first MLB outing for Mejia vs Mets here: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savan...r-pitching-mlb

Likely gets a game just depends on if arms are ready. Few arms are clear but doubt they gonna throw them out there after missing 2 weeks

They arent gonna push guys and still got arms that gonna DFA like Venditte/Josh Smith's/Moran so. Marlins strategy is gonna use whoever is healthy-bats like Rojas/Alfaro/Harold we could see this weekend

Lavarnway/Eddy Alvarez/Brinson probably get DFA for them. I know u love Eddy but probably DFA once bats back as Mattingly picks Forsythe or Sean Rodriguez.

We are gonna see something like this over weekend

Mejia/Josh Smith/Venditte on Sat then Sun Mejia optioned/Josh Smith DFA/Venditte DFA
Elieser/Josh Smith/Shafer on Sun then Josh Smith DFA/Shafer DFA
Castano/Moran on Monday then Castano DFA or optioned/Moran DFA

In other words guys pitch a game then get DFA or optioned a day or 2 later with guys coming back. If they pass thru could get called back up

They would like to get mostly everyone back on ML roster by next road trip which is 8/21 so a week

        • I thought if you weren't on the 60-man roster you would be a PTBNL in a trade. Chad Smith wasn't on the 60-man roster was he?

          • Noted that Zac Gallen is tenth in the majors in strikeouts and continues to turn in great work every time he steps on the mound for the Dbacks. Wish I was privy to the talks behind that deal: Was Gallen the only pitcher Arizona was after or did the Marlins have any options? Pressure is on Jazz to be an exceptional pro in order to square that trade.

Yeah but Gallen is like 2 bad starts away from you thinking he should retire.

Right, but what do YOU think, Erick? Do you have something to share other than sarcasm? If not, it is best kept to yourself. Belittling others, even me, does not reflect well on you.

I think you have a lot of strong opinions based on small sample sizes.

As for the trade, I don’t know yet. We’ll see what Jazz can do at the big league level. Jazz has a higher ceiling than Gallen, but probably has a lower floor as well because of the strikeouts. This is the case with all of our hitting prospects. So far, they haven’t been very good.

                  • Early returns, but Sierra's approach seems vastly improved.
