This service time issue has been discussed a lot here ... yet Neidert and Vesia were added to the opening day roster w/o hesitation or question. Jeter insists that's not an issue and his actions thus far support that.

The only thing I'll say is I don't think service time was ever an issue with Vesia, a guy who is strictly a reliever is not held to same standards as a top prospect. Now Neidert, I don't know, him getting the call up and stuck in the bullpen kinda leads me to believe that they don't view him in the same category as Sixto, Cabrera, Meyer, Garrett, Rogers etc. so maybe they didn't care much about service time in his case. I think if they did view him in that same category, his major league debut would've been made with a start.

I'd say we're already in trouble at the catcher spot. Have I mentioned that Tyler Heineman belonged to the Marlins system last year? He's hitting fifth for the Giants now, after starting out as the #9 hitter. .444 average, even higher OB%. Even stole a base last night. AustinNola is doing just fine for Seattle also.

Actually I had noticed you had brought him up 3,437 times. I'm curious as to what you would like the members of this board to do about the fact that he's no longer with the organization?

My sense is that Marlins are placing far too much emphasis on velocity and far too little on control/command. As proof, let's watch the evolution of the Marlin draft picks after Meyer and the high school lefty. I don't think they will fare nearly as well as Mason Hickman from Vanderbilt, who throws a heavy sinker at 90-92, and was selected behind them.

Cool response that had nothing to do with reply you quoted.

ive never seen someone love more shitty career minor leaguers based off of either limited sample sizes or players playing against significantly younger competition than you. you also never seem to learn from your mistakes

I follow all the former Marlins, mostly out of curiosity. I find personnel decisions to be particularly interesting, especially when they so often differ from my own. Simple as that.

Justin Turner and Whit Merrifield are examples of "career Minor Leaguers" who turned themselves into All Stars. As those are my favorite type of success stories, I'd like, for once, to see the Marlins latch onto a couple. You don't give a crap ... that's your business. P.S. I'm dying to see Eddy Alvarez get his chance. Maybe this virus will provide that.

That seems almost certain at this point. Call it the new flu game boys.

It was a reaction to the comment about Neidert not being taken seriously (because of his limited velocity, of course). Sorry if my response was too obtuse.

                      • Marlins make yesterday's positives official. They also picked up a 2nd Reds pitcher (and former Marlin) Josh D. Smith.

#Marlins roster moves: RHP Justin Shafer and LHP Josh Smith claimed off waivers from Cincinnati. Garrett Cooper, Harold Ramirez and José Ureña put on the Injured List.

You would think that the Phillies will be down too.....but $$$ matter more, and remember the Marlins don't generate much $$$ for MLB so they don't really care if we get shut down. It's going to take the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers or Cubs to get the season suspended or cancelled

Barry Jackson says it’s at least 1 more starting position player. Also, given that they’ve added 2 relievers today, chances are good a few relievers are positive.

Yep this front office still has issues and despite what some on this board think, I believe they still have years to go developing bats & this crop of pitchers will have moved on, been traded or crap out on us...so then it will be 2017 all over again....power but no pitching.
