Oh wow Vesia got hot shotted through the minors. He was in Batavia in 2018 and now he's a major leaguer.
I gotta say I do like Jeter's/Denbo's new approach of being aggressive with prospects. The old Marlins regime would miss out on years of prospects abilities because they were deathly slow with calling up players.
Honestly, it wasn't that hard to see it. I put my money on the Phils tonight. Caleb always struggled with control. Again, I would "blame it" on Mattingly. I don't understand why would you take Nick out of the game. Everyone keeps saying they are stretched out to 70-80 pitches. Well, it would be amazing to win the series tomorrow.
In Caleb's own recent words from an interview, he has worked on getting his fastball lower in the zone but simply can't do it. He has accepted that he is what he is and will take his chances at the letters (and well above). Unfortunately, the league has adapted to him and lays off the high fastball. It's tough to see him changing when he says himself that he can't. He appears to be unusable in any capacity.
In the single bit of good news, Neidert certainly seems up to the task of being part of the rotation. And no, there didn't seem to be any reason to remove him from the game after thirty pitches, but he did toss an inning at Atlanta on Tuesday night.
I have been resigned to watching Rojas play SS this season, but have to admit that he has really impressed me with his continuing improvement as a hitter. I'm becoming a fan of his.
It's been a tough indoctrination for some of the relief pitchers. Vesia, Tarpley, Stanek all gave up long balls in their first trips to the mound. Boxberger was basically there too, as he gave up a shot that required a review to determine it was foul. I'm confident that Vesia will be fine and hopeful for Boxberger. After Stanek's awful debut last year, it's hard to take him seriously. No command/control whatsoever. He was Tampa Bay's throw-in to make roster space for the two Marlin pitchers they acquired for Jesus Sanchez.
The Marlins have really been caught with their pants down when it comes to catching.
A solid outing from Urena is crucial. I want this series!

Talk about an overreaction. He had his worst control game of his career, after a 10-month layoff and extremely limited spring training or summer camp or whatever you want to call it. Fastball velocity was good, he got swings and misses with his secondary pitches. He'll be fine.
Caleb Smith April 2019
Innings: 29
W-L: 2-0
ERA: 2.17
WHIP: 0.83
BBs: 7
Ks: 37
It's funny because, last April, Lee probably thought we had the next Clayton Kershaw. Now, Caleb shouldn't even go back out for his next start because his career is over.
i cant wait till the service time implications are done because this lineup is completely without any kind of impact bats as it stands. some decent bats in there but nothing who can really bring significant power. i hope monte and lewin are up soon. i stand by my comments on aguilar i think he should be a platoon guy or just a bench bat who gets the occasional start.
If it were up to me Jesus Sanchez would be playing CF in Jupiter right now every day and would be the first to get a call.
I just think major league pitching will eat Harrison alive as it is right now.
Not a bad idea.
This was being talked about as an improvement on the telecast bringing in Villar and Dickerson, but we still don't have enough. We need more left-handed bats in the lineup. Tough to beat guys like Wheeler when nearly every bat is right-handed.
