  • Marlins TV Deal

I didn't know where else to post this, but it is relevant to the Marlins and their upcoming TV deal. The Royals are closing in on a new deal between $48-52 million per season. They play in a smaller TV market (about half the size of Miami-Ft. Lauderdale...not even counting Palm Beach county. Based on market size, you have to think the Marlins deal will be $50 million the low end.

Makes you wonder if they wouldn't be better off partnering with someone for their own network and getting away from Fox Sports?

    AT&T(e.g. Pittsburgh), NBC(e.g. Cubs), Charter(Dodgers).

Maybe partner with the Rays, Lightning, Magic, Heat, and Panthers for joint ownership along with the provider.

Most, if not all, of those teams currently have long term TV deals with Fox, so I doubt that is even an option.

You have 6 months of programming with the Marlins and possibly Inter Miami. After that it is more of a question mark. You have the Dolphins, Hurricanes, and FIU Panthers. I doubt you could turn one game a week into a week's worth of programming, but then again ESPN does it everyday.

The Royals have also a much more interested (potential) fanbase and the organization has shown that it can win a championship just recently. Yes KC will have a new owner, and that usually means change but I'd think they have a larger audience every game than the Marlins do right now.

The lack of a stadium naming rights deal should be a tipoff on this. Both Loria and now Jeter/Sherman have failed to capture this revenue stream for 8 seasons now....you'd think SOMEONE would be paying them $2 or $4 million a year, but they seemingly can't even get that....I could see $32-$35 million but not $50 million
