    Exactly. Very rocket launcher-esque

I would not want Sergio Romo closing playoff games for my favorite team.

Is he gonna close for them?

As #Marlins thank Sergio Romo and wish him well don’t be surprised if Romo returns to Miami as a free agent in offseason.
Id be cool with this. Romo was a really good signing. Pitched well, seemed like a good guy in the club house.

Prospect depth moving forward by position

        C- Banfield
        1b- Diaz, VM Jr.
        2b- Diaz
SS- Osiris, Devers, Nunez, the 3 IFA SS's we just signed
        3b- ?
OF- Bleday, Harrison, Jerar, Monte, Brinson, Miller, Burdick, VVM, Conner Scott, Misner, Orr, Pompey

SP's- Sixto, Garrett, Rogers, Cabrera, Neidert, Dugger, Stewart, Fitterer, Guzman, Holloway, Mejia on top of the guys in the majors Lopez, Alcantara, Caleb smith, Gallen, Yamamoto.

That is some pretty impressive depth. Plus another top 5 pick next year.

I will try to answer everyone’s questions as always. So, let’s begin. The Marlins feel Diaz is one of the best LH hitting prospects in the minors. They are glowing over this deal. More than usual. A lot more. File it away.

So FanGraphs has Diaz as a 35+ prospect right now. The 47th ranked prospect in the system. So if the Marlins are right it's official FanGraphs sucks.

Wow, I am surprised by this. The PTBNL better be a nobody outside the top 30.

I'm fine with this being a swap with Vallimont (as Romo is practically worthless). I like it. Great gamble here.

Cooper is going to LF I guess?

I don't think they've done their big update yet

If Romo were worthless this trade wouldn't have happened.

Worthless in the sense the return is "Eveld" or "Mills" and that doesn't move the needle.

This one is interesting for sure.

It is, overall I'm neutral on it right now. I just would've liked if we were going to deal Romo AND 2 prospects I would like more of a slam dunk guy, not necessarily a top prospect, but more of a sure thing, this guy if he keeps up what he's doing in AA then it's a boon, but we're constantly chiding Lee for small sample size. He's a high .700s OPS first baseman at every other level until this 120+ AB run in AA.

it's pretty clear the marlins view him as the type of slam dunk guy you are referring to. that power is kind of ridiculous, and even when he wasnt producing to the level of this year his plate discipline has been very solid.

                    - - - - - - - - - -

Also supposedly last year he had a broken hand that messed up his year. Similar to what happened with Isan diaz the year we got him.

Agree completely. He was Rule V eligible and no one took him. Says a lot.

Maybe this is a launch angle success story?

Heyman twitter he has "stellar D." I like that.

this kid reminds me a lot of what yordan alvarez looked like as he came up in the minors.

This is also not supposedly, and he is their 10th best prospect on their list. If we're looking at Fangraphs not so updated list...... https://www.fangraphs.com/prospects/...=-1,1&team=min

It looks like they have a clump of FV45 guys. I suspect that's where he's going to land once things get updated. Vallimont moved up big in MLB's rankings, so you would Vallimont and other assets moves Diaz to that tier at a minimum.

I don't know much about him yet but I suspect he gets clumped in with Scott/Devers/Misner/Nunez and ahead of Guzman/Holloway. That's probably top 10-15 in Marlins system, so pretty similar to Minnesota's BA list.

He apparently has his last option year next year. This seems like a June 2020 call-up post super-2 for sure. They'd have him club controlled ages 23-29 for 6.5 seasons.

They must feel really comfortable with Cooper in the OF. He has good defensive ratings this year in a SSS but we'll see.

Interesting that MLB.com now has Diaz as the Marlins' #21 prospect, and Vallimont 29th for Minnesota.

So the biggest consideration is the Marlins have a bunch of pitching prospects and not enough hitting prospects. I really don't mind adding a 22 year old with a .900+ OPS in AA.

I consider this a straight up Vallimont for Diaz trade given we lost 2 months of Romo on a non-competing team. In this sense, it's a pretty even trade for a Twins team wanting a pitching prospect and us needing hitting prospects.

MLB.com is not good for rankings. Fangraphs and BA are the rankings sites while Mayo/Callis do great at scouting reports

                                BA have Diaz at #10

Exactly what trade is. Diaz for Vallimont and Romo(thrown in)

Will be interesting to see who PTBNL is but we pretty much traded a Tier 3 SP prospect for a 1B Prospect with power

We have Guerrero,Roberson,Walters who ALL could move up to Jupiter and should move up
