Marlins sign veteran Neil Walker. Could start in OF or infield

    3:01 PM - 29 Jan 2019

They finally add a lefty bat to replace DD. I suppose he could be an option at 1B, 3B, or a corner OF. He's coming off a bad season with the Yankees, but he's been a productive hitter for a long time. Certainly a worthwhile gamble for a team that needs offense and has at bats to offer.

The Marlins also DFA'd Wittgren, which is sort of a curious move. They didn't need to clear a spot on the 40 man as far as I know. I'd think there is a trade market for him (perhaps even in a JT deal...).

Don’t you just keep DD, a younger Walker?

Replace DD with Walker and then DFA’d Wittgren. They continue to make no sense, but ok I guess.

Yeah some of the moves they make don’t make much sense, especially considering some other guys on the roster.

Pedro Alvarez just lost his 1B/OF LHB job

Walker's primary will be platoon at 1B but also play 2B,3B,LF,RF

            1B-O'Brien/Cooper
            2B-Castro
            3B-Prado
            LF-Dean
            RF-BA

            ALL are right handed bats

They are hoping he hits and shows power so they can trade him at deadline like Maybin LY

DD got too "muscular" for their liking for 2B/3B and saw him as spotty contact hitter. Weird reasons but who knows

As for Witt,no clue. They kept him in AAA a few times over the past few years even tho looked pretty solid in majors

Alvarez couldn't make it onto a horrible Orioles roster - didn't have much hope for him here.

Walker's deal is for $2M so guess it makes sense over Dietrich.
