  • Coghlan Staying in LF?

Looks as if the Marlins are leaning toward keeping Chris Coghlan in left field rather than moving him back to his original position at second base. But that doesn't necessarily mean that Dan Uggla gets to stick around. Our best guess is that the Marlins can only afford to keep one player from their arbitration-eligible trio of Uggla, Cody Ross and Jorge Cantu. And if Uggla wants to parlay all his arbitration leverage into an $8 million deal, it probably won't be him.

    *sigh*

If this is true, Boner at 2B in 2010 is a near certainty.

I thought we all pretty much knew that Boner would be in the everyday lineup for most if not all of 2010?

If I was a betting man,I say we keep Cantu because cheaper than Uggla or Ross and gives us another year to let Dominguez and Morrison(If need be) to play in the minors

Boner could have competiton tho with a Uggla deal.

All of the teams have SS/2B who are in Double A or higher who could be in a deal
        Cards-Pete Kozma
        Giants-Brandon Crawford,Nick Noonan,Conor Gillaspie
        Cubs-Starlin Castro

          It's just so fucking stupid.

You don't trade for someone at the deadline to turn what was formerly an everyday player for you into a pinch runner to then turn around and turn him back into an every day player a year later.

          God I hate this organization.

Money-wise, Cantu would (very probably) not be cheaper than Ross, but he would bring less back in a trade.

I assumed Cogs would be playing 2B

There is no way Bonifacio came even close to meeting the FO's expectations (they're not that fvcking dumb).

Yeah, I was getting really excited about 2010. We're trying to sign JJ, bucking an organizational trend/policy, we seemed to be willing to spend some stadium cash smartly. I assumed Coghlan would be a 2nd, and our OF is either Maybin, Ross and Hermida or Maybin, Ross and Carroll.

Then we do this and Beinfestball rears its ugly head again.

                  this honestly doesnt surprise me.

i mean, how can not keep boner's bat in the lineup, his .613ops is teh best

this seriously f-up CC value too,

as a left fielder, he has an average bat with a below average glove.
But at second, he has an above-average bat, with an average-to-below-average glove.

Maybe were trying to use it as leverage by saying CC is staying in LF? So teams don't think we are just gonna get rid of Uggla? No nevermind we don't think like that. We don't like leverage we get rid of players when their value is in the damn toilet! Boner at 2b in 2010 can't wait!

I don't love Boner in the everyday lineup, but if they keep Nick Johnson and Cantu then I could live with it, I think. You'd have a pretty awesome defensive infield, at the very least.

I don't think he's ever going to be a good player, but you could, I think, live with him at 2nd if his defense is all it's supposed to be (and he's shown a lot of ability in brief spells in the middle infield). If he can do, say a .330 OBP (and we don't put him at the top of the order), I think he'd be bearable.

If we have to keep Boner in the lineup, though, my preferred way would be this:

C John Baker (Vs. RHP)/Paulino (Vs. LHP)
                      1B Nick Johnson
                      2B Chris Coghlan
                      SS Hanley Ramirez
3B Emilio Bonifacio (Vs. Rhp)/Gaby Sanchez (vs. Lhp)
LF Brett Carroll (vs. LHP)/Hermida (vs. RHP)
                      CF Cameron Maybin
                      RF Cody Ross

I could live with that, since you're optimizing your defense, though you know there's no way we go with three platoons at the same time because we just won't on principle.

That aside, I can't see Boner continuing to be a complete zero against RHP, especially with his BABIP being .268. In the minors, his BABIP against RHP was .365. His plate discipline is so much better against RHP. And I think Gaby and Carroll are both pretty good bets to be nice bats against LHP. Hermida has shown he is a 790 type of bat against RHP.

Bonifacio's hitting .312/.338/.362 against lefties.....and you want him not to play against them?
God would be expecting a first pitch breaking ball in the dirt because humans love to disappoint him.

.19 BB/K ratio vs LHP. .43 BB/K ratio vs RHP.

It is basically all because he has a .396 BABIP against lefties.

                          His line in the minors:

LHP: .265/.325/.333. Strikes out in 23% of ABs, .27 BB/K ratio.
RHP: .310/.364/.402. 16% of the time he strikes out. .51 BB/K ratio.

2015 AB Sample size > 497 PA Sample size.

Always been a lot better vs RHP. This has been a complete fluke of a season for him.
