Yes and no. Yes to securing the years, but he has hypothetical leverage with knowing he is a free agent earlier so the FA/option years will be valued higher.

Practically, this is bitching about under $5 million over the course of the next 7-9 years so it's not that big of a deal, but that's presuming they actually buy him out.

The Phillies really killed it today with that.

That is debatable. It is really arguable that with Yelich's age and contract they could have got a better package from another team and trading Ozuna-2 years from free agency and coming off a near MVP caliber year-for a pitcher with one pitch and control issues and who many project to end up in the bullpen and a 4th outfielder is perplexing.
