  • Jose Fernandez Flew to Miami to See Doctor for Stiff Shoulder

Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez flew home to have a doctor look at his stiff right shoulder, manager Dan Jennings told reporters Saturday in Atlanta.

Fernadnez was removed from Friday’s game after throwing just 76 pitches in five innings. It was Fernandez’s seventh start since returning from Tommy John surgery.

“Let's see what it is before we speculate on something,” Jennings said, according to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald. Jennings did not say how long Fernandez might be sidelined.

Fernandez, who turned 23 last week, won the NL Rookie of the Year in 2013 after posting a 2.19 ERA in 28 starts. His 2014 season ended in early May when he tore the UCL in his right elbow and was forced to undergo Tommy John surgery.

I think we should trade him. We suck with him. We suck without him. Who cares?

He deserves to play for a better organization.

                  - - - - - - - - - -

Plus we can restock the farm system so we have more guys who can lose a bunch of games and then get traded.

Sounds like he probably won't pitch again this season.

Wouldn't put it past these dumbasses to have him make a meaningless home start in late September to sell some extra tickets though.

Good news is, if you ever wanted to find a time to extend him, this is it. TJ and "season ending" soreness makes for great leverage. Bad news is, these are the Marlins and he's a Boras guy.

It'll keep his arbitration down though. Probably going to project closer to $3 million than $4 million (strausburg got $3.5 I believe).

Jose would be pretty nuts to turn down something like 6/$60 guaranteed (more money than Bumgarner), with an expensive team option on the back end. TJ and another arm problem? Got to lock in some real money. He hasn't made $1 million yet. I suspect the Marlins try to do it assuming this is not the sign of a reoccurring arm problem. He would be a free agent in his prime.

                          We'll see.

do you know who you're dealing with?

They've extended one pitcher like, ever

and it only bought out 2 FA years

and it ended up being a not good contract

I don't think we'll ever see them buy out a SP again
