It all depends on roster construction. If our options are Don Kelly, Cole Gillespie and Miguel Rojas for the last bench spot, I'd pick Rojas and Dietrich has no playing time at short. But if we have a crazy deep bench and our Dietrich is our 25th man with no shortstops yeah it might make sense. But this is the marlins and that'll never happen.

    • I wouldn't want to see Dietrich at short.

      • Frisaro says Kimbrel striking him out in the 9th is proof he's not ready to play everyday.

          • I don't have a problem moving Ozuna and Dietrich if they get a big time SP from somewhere (like Norris in Toronto).

They would have haren, Latos, and Koehler to trade for a young OF and 3B. In the offseason, they could probably add a veteran 3 SP on a small deal and a platoon OF and the team looks pretty good.

            • If you think Yelich can handle center on a full time basis, it makes a lot of sense to move Ozuna for a decent return.

              • If we do any deals with LAD a name to watch is RP Yimi Garcia. They have discussed Haren and Latos with them but seems when LAD made a Cishek offer we countered with Cishek for Garcia and were told NO which is why they went with the St Louis offer

Also if they get Garcia then look for Bryan Morris name to be out there. Houston/Minnesota have both called and even Pittsburgh asked when they missed on Cishek

The issue with the Ozuna deal is can u get a decent return for him? That is the FO discussion right now-they have no problems trading him and playing Prado in LF and Yelich in CF it seems. I know teams that need a big bat have called tho to see what he would cost since SD wants 1 or 2 TOP Prospects for a Upton rental

The Toronto deal may have passed they reportedly prefer a long term guy not rental(Latos/Haren) and a closer type. In other words Milwaukee is a perfect fit with Fiers and KRod

                • I have zero issue with them listening on Ozuna. Hitting market being weak likely cancels out his poor performance trade value. He's 23 and under team control. Could make sense to trade him for the right package or player.

                  • Prado shouldn't be looked at as the solution in lf and it shouldn't be trade prado or trade ozuna. It should be trade either if the return is there.

                    • Inside sources tell me Ozuna is as good as gone before Friday. By inside sources, I mean the voices inside my head.

                      • Cincy with a decent package for Cueto. 1 ML Arm(SP/RP?) and 2 Interesting arms

Look for KC to talk with us about Dunn-they were looking for a LRP even before getting rid of Finnegan and have some discussions about Dunn before

                        • I dislike trading Ozuna (with the obvious caveat of unless it's a massive overpay) because right handed power is very limited right now. We have nothing in the system, at all, to replace him with. And the FA class's depth is in pitching, not hitting.

He has the potential for huge value and it'd be selling very on him. Shit he's still making the minimum next year. You don't move productive minimum players unless 1) you have something to replace it with or 2) you get a massive haul. And I don't see how you get a massive haul for him with the year he's had.

                          • My boy Frisaro with twitter thing saying the Cueto deal shows what we can get for Latos

If we got a Top Prospect(Finnegan) offer for Latos,I would trade him fast-wouldn't even ask for 2 other arms. One report says Cincy wanted Stroman plus more for Cueto from Toronto

I think they are floating his name out more or less to see what they can get. Maybe Houston says Preston Tucker? They aren't going to sell low but his name is on the market

I'd prefer the Marlins trading Ozuna for a strong pitcher (if they get a fair return) and signing one of the free agent outfielders. Jason Heyward or Justin Upton would be more fun (and secure) than signing a pitcher to a big deal.

SAN DIEGO -- Trading Steve Cishek to the Cardinals on Friday has created a reshuffling in the Marlins' bullpen. One of the changes that could have a long-term impact is lefty Brad Hand shifting from being a spot starter/long reliever to a more defined setup role.

Hand, groomed as a starter throughout his career in the organization, now joins Mike Dunn as a second left-handed option for manager Dan Jennings and pitching coach Chuck Hernandez.
"I told Brad his role will change now," Jennings said.
Andre Rienzo, called up from Triple-A New Orleans to fill Cishek's roster spot, takes over as long reliever.
"Now, with Brad it gives us that second left-hander we can go to, maybe in matchup situations," Jennings said. "We'll get him in spots to give us maybe that inning instead of being a long guy."
Hand, 25, is 1-2 with a 5.36 ERA in 26 games, with three starts this season.
Out of options, Hand made the Opening Day roster, but he has been asked to take on multiple roles. As a long reliever, he'd go through extended periods between appearances.
The Marlins have explored trade options for Hand, and a few weeks ago, had advanced discussions with the Blue Jays. But return compensation couldn't be agreed upon, and nothing materialized. Now it appears he will stay with Miami, but in a more specialist capacity.

Hand broke in with the Marlins in 2011, and he had been competing for rotation spots every season. Now, it appears his future with the club could be in the bullpen.
"Brad has been in so many different roles this year, starting, he's been in long relief," Jennings said. "He's been in to face one [batter]. He's been in complete innings. I think the versatility he's shown has helped build his confidence in a good way. It's good because we're going to be counting on him to fill some different spots.
"Basically we've had Dunn all year with Brad either starting or in the long spot. It will help Chuck and I when we have to make decisions on matchups or what we need to do, should we double-switch or go with a straight-up switch. Having Brad now in different roles will be big for us."
                                Still think he's dealt.
