  • Ticket Prices Will NOT Go Up

By BARRY JACKSON AND MANNY NAVARRO

    bjackson@MiamiHerald.com

The Marlins said this weekend they will not raise prices for season tickets or individual games next season.

Fans who renew season tickets and pay in full by Sept. 21 will receive an eight percent price reduction; fans who pay in five installments will receive a 2.5 percent discount. Fans also can freeze their season ticket prices for the next two years and receive an eight percent discount.

People who own season tickets will get priority for seating placement in the Marlins' new ballpark, scheduled to open in 2012.

      Dateline: Miami

"Florida Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria instituted a new pay-to-play policy for contracted players, the first of its kind ever seen in modern professional sports. Under the system, Loria requires players to actually pay him in order to don a Marlins uniform and take the field. The majority owner of baseball's cheapest franchise claims that the team wasn't financially viable as previously constructed and a "market correction" was in order."

The sales department is once again proving to be archaic. Freezing the prices is nice, but that's not going to spike renewals. The payment over 5 months is nothing new, that's been in place since '02.

They're seriously lagging behind other professional sports franchises here. The Heat cut prices for all but the premium seats to try to get renewals and new accounts open. Most NBA and NHL teams in sagging markets are trying a 12 month payment plan; most NHL teams will give you a full season ticket and allow you to pay for it over the following 6 months, basically like paying for the games on a pay as you go basis.

If the Marlins really want to get people in, and encourage them to take advantage of the reduced season ticket pricing, then hopefully they will get with the times and really put something in place that gets people committed.

Mermaids, fat men, DJ Mdot (M-Dot?, m-Dot?) and DJ Petey is what puts asses in the seats.

Interestingly, while the average ticket price is near bottom in MLB, premium ticket prices are amongst the highest in the league. Premium seating at JRS is probably defined as Infield Box, Founder's Club, the MVP, Batter's Eye and club seating-- not every seat between first and third.

Non premium seating between between first and third on the lower and upper decks is a joke. $25 for Upper Deck A? $20 for row 25 in Upper Deck B? Yeah right, fuck you I'm sitting in the Fish Tank.

Everything but the Fish Tank is a total rip. I think I usually sit in Founder's Club MVP nowadays when I go, but that's different cause it's free. Not to mention the fact there's no mall across the street where one cheat the expensive parking.

Everyone gets paid except for the Manatees and Maniacs.

                What does it matter?

Wait, the Maniacs don't get paid? Someone would volunteer for this?!?
God would be expecting a first pitch breaking ball in the dirt because humans love to disappoint him.

                          That's $81,000 a year for 10 Mermaids over 81 games.

/not sure if they work weekdays

/pretty sure they have more than 10 for weekend games

/doesn't include appearances at team functions

Pretty sure the Fish get some money back when the girls do their hookins after the games and when the Fish is out of town
