      awesome

so what Marlins thing happens now? Do we:
      A) Rush Nicolino to the majors
      B) Rush Urena to the majors
      C) Move Phelps to the rotation and bring up a reliever
      D) Trade for a pitcher that is worse than the above 3 options
      E) Sign a veteran who's been out of baseball for a season and start him in 2 weeks with Phelps taking the start in between

I think C and E are the most likely.

        Brad Penny anyone?

Would phelps be given the chance before Brad Hand?

              It'll be Hand or Phelps.

And should be Hand or Phelps.

Hand is the best option IMO, which is why it's not a poll choice.

I don't foresee this ending well. What a terrible start to the year. They needed everything to go right, and everything is horrendously going wrong already.

It'll be Phelps and Capps will be called up.

I would have thought so but Capps could be a disaster case right now with the shit that's going on regarding his delivery.

@clarkspencer: Source: Alvarez expected to go on DL with shoulder injury tho MRI results were inconclusive. Carter Capps likely to be recalled. #Marlins

1ip 3ha 2er 2bb for Capps so far in 2 appearances in New Orleans

obviously, a meaningless sample, but not when coupled with what we know about his delivery

Last year before the draft, I thought the Marlins could have Carlos Rodon and Andrew Heaney* as their No. 5/emergency call up pitchers this season. They are currently the No. 15 and 42 prospects in baseball according to Baseball America.

Now they have 28-year-old, career 93 OPS+ David Phelps and 4.3 K/9 in AA Justin Nicolino.

                          WELP.

*I didn't love the Gordon trade, but I can't really be that upset about them not having Heaney because it at least came in service of making an upgrade to the major-league roster. Not drafting Rodon was baffling to me at the time and remains so now, given this team's obvious need to build a cheap, young contender before Stanton's contract balloons.

Why can't things ever be not freakin' disastrous?

bobbob, I think it can be argued that there is more of a need for cost controlled players when Stanton's contract balloons. But also this is the marlins and it could have been assumed that they wouldn't go out and sign a front line starter (i.e., Shields) in addition inking a Stanton extension.
