Also whats the point of the Jeter thing? Become a coach? instructor in spring?
Supposedly he was interested in becoming an owner after he retired as a player.

Yeah, buying a minority stake in the Marlins is a pretty good assumption.

Loria only doing it so he can hang out with Jeter.

Also having Jeter becoming the "face" of the ownership group would be really savvy.

That part makes so much sense that I doubt they do it.

It would certainly help our media coverage. Jeter is like porn for baseball writers.
            --------------------
            NY Post from June

Derek Jeter doesn’t plan to leave baseball for good when he retires following his 20th season.

The Yankees’ captain would like to be an owner one day.

“That’s the next goal, buddy,” he said at his 18th annual Turn 2 Foundation dinner at the Sheraton in Midtown Sunday night. “Calling the shots, not answering to someone, that’s what interests me.

“I’d like to think I would be good one.”

If Jeter does become an owner, don’t expect him to emulate George Steinbrenner, ripping his players in the media and getting rid of managers left and right.

“I’d probably be a little bit more behind the scenes than the Boss,” he said. “But I learned a lot of things from the Boss.”

When asked if he would be interested in owning the Yankees if the Steinbrenner family ever decided to put the team up for sale, he joked, “You got some money for me?”

Jeter said he has no interest in managing because of the travel and time it demands.
“I want no part of that,” he said with a smirk. “Then I got to answer your questions every day.”

Jeter said he has yet to reach out to any specific owners or gauge interest. But he plans to do so after the season ends. He said he has no interest in owning a team in any other sport.

Selling Jeter on minority ownership would be one of the smartest things Loria has ever done.

So not even Derek Jeter himself can replace Adeiny Hechavarria?

kidding, but Hech will be here forever.

Jeter starting off as minority owner and after a bunch of years pulls a Jordan and becomes majority owner would be pretty fun to see. Would definitely improve PR that's been in the shitter for so long.

seems to me Jeter would have a lot to lose in this case, no?

Money, if you really think they're losing money.

Otherwise, seems really safe to me. If we suck, he's not gonna get blamed, Loria will. And if we win, he'll get more credit than he deserves.

If true, a brilliant move. Who are these guys and what have they done with the real front office?

                        It's because they fired Beinberg.

Why would Jeter even want a piece of the team? Like, I get it if it's minority ownership or even a front office position with the Yankees but with the Marlins?

This is probably Loria just trying to rub his junk on the "Yankees Mystique" like he so often does.

This story makes no sense. I agree, why would Jeter choose the Marlins, if anyone?

Even if its possible, I've never thought highly of minority celebrity ownership. Look at what the Dolphins tried to do a few years ago. Turns the franchise into more of a circus than a team. But I guess that would fit Loria's motif.

Well, he lives in Florida and 5%, for just an example, of the Marlins would be much cheaper than 5% of the vast majority of teams.

Lets say Jeter wants to spend X amount of dollars, he's going to get a bigger share of the Marlins than he would most teams. $50m probably gets him something like 6-10% of the Marlins, depending on whose valuation you believe.

$50m gets him maybe 2% of the Yankees.
