With the monetary figures we see nowadays, that's not terribly bad.
It is for a guy who is awesome in the postseason and not awesome the rest of the year.

      • Pass on Sandoval. I actually love the idea of Headley as the Marlins 3B.

Hanley is willing to change positions....make him our 1B.

        • sign stanton long term
          sign headley to play 3B
play justin bour vs RHP at 1B and find schlub who can his LHP to platoon
get rid of casey mcgehee please please please don't give him a long-term extension please please please

          and i am happy

they will do none of those things and will definitely give mcgehee an extension

If we're working in a $60 payroll scenario, they have to trade at least Cishek, probably Dunn, maybe Eovaldi, to fit in McGehee.

Which of course could fill the "schlub platoon" at 1B spot.

            Just saying.

            Sign Yelich too.

              Kyle Jensen can hit LHP

McGehee will stay here at least through next year. I mean, come on, he just won NL comeback player of the year. It doesn't get much better than that. BALLING on a budget!

                • Bour/Jensen 1b platoon could be fun.

                  • How do you guys feel about trading Eovaldi?

Maybe we can trade him to LAA for Kendrick and then sign Brandon McCarthy or sign Billingsley (incentive laden contract)?

I am aware Kendrick has a no-trade clause and he can block a trade to Miami, but maybe if we sign Stanton he will waive it? Who knows.

I would also like to get rid of Garrett Jones to clear some cap space and replace him with Bour/Jensen at 1B.

                    That would leave us with:

                    LF- Yelich
                    2B- Kendrick
                    RF- Stanton
                    CF- Ozuna
3B- McGehee (he's not going anywhere)
                    1B- Bour/Jensen
                    C- Salty
                    SS- Hech

                    Starting 5

                    1- Alvarez
                    2- Cosart
3- McCarthy/Billingsley (probably going to get injured within a week)
                    4- Kohler
                    5- Heaney/Nicolino/Desco

I am not for trading Eovaldi, but this is one scenario I'd be fine with. Kendrick would be a major upgrade over what we had last season at 2B.

                          • I feel like if I'm gonna trade Eovaldi, it's not gonna be for a 31-year old 2B who has one year left on his deal.

                            • The Rays are moving toward dealing right-hander Jeremy Hellickson to an unknown National League team, reports Joel Sherman of the New York Times (via Twitter). A deal is likely to get done this week, Sherman adds.
