Agreed. As long as they aren't starting the equivalent of Slowey, LeBlanc, and Sanabia 3 out of every 5 games, it would be hard to be as bad as they were to start last season.

        • Former Marlin Chris Valaika signs with "first-class organization"

It stood to reason that Chris Valaika's future with the Marlins was pretty much toast when owner Jeffrey Loria vetoed the infielder's promotion from the minors late in the season. The reason: Loria was perturbed that Valaika, along with a handful of other players, complained to management that he had been harassed verbally by former hitting coach Tino Martinez, who resigned in the wake of the allegations. Martinez was Loria's hand-picked hire.

The front office wanted to call up Valaika from Triple A New Orleans in August. But Loria said no.

And sure enough, Valaika on Sunday signed a minor-league deal with the Chicago Cubs, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

But what's most interesting is one of Rosenthal's follow-up tweets, in which he quotes Valaika's agent, Joel Wolfe.

"Chris is very excited to be with a first-class organization," Rosenthal reported Wolfe as saying.

Was it a subtle dig at the Marlins? One way or the other, it's definitely a comment worth noting.

          Why? Wolfe also represents

              • Probably already talked about somewhere on here but our Catching Search is now at Bello and Dioner Navarro. Bello we like as more of a fallback option and Navarro as the starter/platoon guy. The issue with Navarro seems to be that we might have to go more than 2 years if we want him because at least 2 or 3 other teams want him something Loria is not to high on(Even tho we have No Catching close)

As for pitching, after Jason Vargas and his agent dicked us around to get a better contract from KC. They actually did a great job since our offer was 1 yr and an option for the 2nd year. We have moved onto Paul Malholm and Phil Hughes

Also we all know how much this board loves Skipworthless,I thought I would throw this out. At least 3 AL teams have asked about him in deals that have been talked about. NO not a deal for Skip but him thrown in a deal. Baltimore/Houston/LAA were the 3 teams. Look for him to possible be traded tho before the season starts IF we need a 40 man spot and sign another catcher

                        • Count the Marlins among the teams that will give infielder Scott Sizemore plenty of consideration as he searches for a new home.

Sizemore opted for free agency last week when the Athletics tried to outright him off their 40-man roster. The Marlins have had internal discussions about offering Sizemore, who can play second and third base, a minor league deal.

The Tigers’ fifth-round pick out of Virginia Commonwealth in 2006, Sizemore is looking to re-establish himself after missing most of the last two seasons. Sizemore since making his major league debut with the Tigers in 2010 has appeared in 160 games (598 plate appearances) and logged a .238/.328/.381 slash line.

Sizemore, who turns 29 next month, suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in February 2012 and missed the entire season. He appeared in two games for the Athletics last April before re-tearing the ligament and undergoing another season-ending surgery.

In 2,173 career minor league plate appearances, Sizemore hit .300/.388/.453. If he does land with the Marlins, he would push Donovan Solano, Ed Lucas and Derek Dietrich for a starting job at second or third.

                              • A favorite around here-Peter Gammons reporting that Navarro is close to signing and the Red Sox are not in on him. This means it looks like we could have a new starting catcher very soon
