ORLANDO, Fla. -- Officials from the Cubs and Marlins both agree they may have something to talk about.

The Cubs have a stockpile of high-end position prospects and the Marlins have a long list of fine young pitchers. Prospect-for-prospect deals are rare because they require a strong stomach. Needless to say, such trades carry a big risk.

The Cubs have four huge positional prospects in Kris Bryant, Javier Baez, Albert Almora and Jorge Soler, while the Marlins' list of young pitchers is quite impressive. Beyond Jacob Turner, Nate Eovaldi and no-hitter man Henderson Alvarez who all pitched in the majors this past season, Miami has Andrew Heaney, Justin Nicolino, Adam Conley, Jose Urena and Brian Flynn, among others.

Presumably the Marlins would be most interested in Baez and Bryant since they are infielders, though Bryant may be nearly untouchable. Miami has a decent stash of young outfielders, though Almora, who is from Miami, might be interesting.

The Cubs' pitching list is improved, but there's still a gap between the quality of its top young hitters and pitchers.

Bryant can't be traded until June or July.

I'd like to see what the Fish do at Catcher. Supposedly Ruiz already has a 2/20 offer out there, McCann wants over $100MM, and the O's just put Wieters on the trade block.

Wieters would be awesome but why even bother thinking that's a possibility.

It is possible since we have what Baltimore wants(SP) and cash to spend(even tho we won't use it) however it is not a simple deal. #1 Loria would have to OK spending cash since Wieters would have to be signed within 2 years and #2 it would likely cost us Heaney AND another ML Ready arm, even tho we could also ask about Schoop in the deal if they get crazy on the arms they want

It still looks like it is gonna be our usually minor league FA singings and possibly a Uribe for 2 years/10 million deal with him as our 3B next year and to start 2015 until Moran is ready to go

He's not worth nearly that much. 20 HRs for a catcher who can throw and catch is good, but we're talking about a guy who's BA and SLG% has dropped every year over the past 3 years and hit .235 last year. I don't think it would cost our top pitching prospect, and if it did, I would not be interested.

Ya it shouldn't however it is not like Baltimore has to trade him. Baltimore is putting him out there to see what teams are willing to give up for him and with most teams not having a star catcher they should get a few nice offers. If we wanted him tho Heaney would more than likely have to be in the deal unless we included Alvarez or Eovaldi instead. They want a SP who can start right now

What we need to do is see what Houston wants for Castro(who is also said to be on the market) and try to get him. While he is nothing special,he could be very servicable and cost alot less.

From what have been hearing tho(Yes all BS) is we are not really looking to do anything right now. They have talked to a few minor FA about minor league deals/Chad Qualls as well as Juan Uribe thats about it

So all the Middlebrooks and Trumbo talk is BS?

The Marlins currently have great pitching depth in their system and we all know how valuable pitching prospects are. They will also most likely have a very good pitcher available in the draft at #2. They should absolutely be looking to move some of that pitching for bats.

Yanks are currently in talks with Cards for Freese per NY daily news. Now that's a name that can fill our 3B slot. Bet Loria gets A-Rod though, because it's a Loria thing to do.
