Tonight, the 2013 Miami Marlins won their 41st game, officially passing the 1962 Mets and eliminating any chance of them being the worst team of the modern era.
They said it couldn't be done, but the Marlins did it in 106 games. Despite being last in the NL in runs, hits, doubles, home runs, average, on base, slugging and ops, the Marlins have found a way to get it done.
Sometimes (the last 2 nights) it felt like it might never happen, but this rag-tag bunch of ballplayers wouldn't be denied.
47 players have taken the field in a Marlins uniform this year and their efforts will never be forgotten. Except for Chris Valaika, no one will remember that guy. They will forever be linked together by this momentous achievement.
So, here's to you 1962 New York Mets, you're still the worst and we're not. So...suck our dicks.
