My point is if you trade the whole team because the experiment was a failure, there is no point in keeping Reyes.
The whole second year thing is irrelevant because no one is coming just to see Jose Reyes, anyway.

Bottom line is, Jose Reyes would just have some good years on a bad team, and then we'd probably be good/stuck with the horrendus backloaded part of the deal.

You either wanted to keep the team/Reyes or rebuild. I really don't understand how it would make sense to have a combination of both.
