  • Fish; I don’t understand the complaining about the park not having enough to do for families and people that don’t drink and then your proposed solution is a bar. Like huh? And also you say they need more things for casual fans that don’t care about the game, and when that Recess thing is mentioned for exactly that, you then complain that the view of the game from there is no good….if it’s for casual fans, why do they care about the view?

I think this move will be a good effort to create a space for before/after games, but it alone won’t be enough to draw people to the area. The area has improved over the years, but most of it is blocks away or across the river.

i really don’t see an extra standing room bar area doing much to attract people. A good team will do that as we’ve seen with the Panthers (hello Bruce - the proof/blueprint is right in front of you????), but that’s never happening, or at best it’ll be another 5+ years away.

    • I think there was a hangover affect from the 2023 season/playoff run on attendance last year…..with near zero improvement on field, I don’t see how attendance won’t fall this year with the hangover over. But I also expected it to drop last year and it increased slightly….

My idea wasnt a bar. Obviously there would be bars there but my idea was to take out the upper deck outfield seats and put some sort of pavilion like they have in atlanta that, yes, has bars, but also restaurants and things for kids and families to do. Honestly, the Miami live thing will be a huge improvement as this is kind of what i was hoping they would do inside that exact area inside the ballpark, but you can still do something with that area that is completely unneeded. You simply do not need 37k seats in that stadium, and more can be done to improve the fan experience once inside the ballpark.

It's obviously anecdotal, but i lived in miami for school and work for probably a total of 4-5 years. Had they had that Miami live area then, i absolutely would have gone to more games. In either 2021 or 2022, i went to a marlins cardinals game in early april. Went to the ballpark early, watched batting practice, and then other than getting a $20 drink that has $.50 worth of alcohol in it from the budweiser bar, there is nothing to do prior to the game. At panthers games you have the plaza right outside the stadium, but also it's in a better location next to sawgrass with very easily accessible bars and restaurants to go to pregame. Stephen ross has done a tremendous job renovating hard rock. The heat have their outside pavilion overlooking the bay plus bayside and the miami world center now, and it's simply in a better area with more to do prior to games.

I've had season tickets for dolphins, heat, and panthers at various times over the last few years, and the pre and post game experience is miles better than marlins park. Miami live is a huge improvement, but even if you sell $5 tickets for that upper deck section, you're at least getting some people in the ballpark that might not otherwise be there. They cant help that the location of the stadium is awful at this point, but they can make it better once you're there.

Obviously nothing will make as big of a difference as winning, but there are absolutely improvements they can make in that stadium that would make the experience more enjoyable. Currently, it is about as antiseptic of a stadium as there is, even if it is nice and clean and modern.

        • feels like we've heard about andrew salas for like 4 years now signing with us, but it will finally be official today. Good lineage obviously with his brother being a top prospect in all of baseball, his other brother was a good prospect here before falling off after being traded, and his dad a former big leaguer.

I don’t think The space in that part of the upper deck is big enough to put what you want there. Plus, why do they need 5 other restaurants up there with a bunch a few steps down?

also I guess I’m strange, but I never understood the concept of going early to hang out at something nearby. I go to the game for the game and would go into the park early if I were early.
staying late, maybe I’d stay in the area but it’d also be packed.

You're not strange, I also dont go to most sporting events super early aside from dolphins games to tailgate. But especially due to the location of the ballpark and the fact that most games start right after or during rush hour traffic, you have to have stuff right next to or inside the stadium to do before the game, especially for a huge portion of the fanbase that is from broward or palm beach. The times i have gone to the marlins games in the last 5-7 years, i have left work early at 4 and gone straight down there because i-95 is awful and i'd rather try to kill an hour at the ballpark as opposed to sit in traffic. I'd rather beat the rush hour a little bit and make an event of it rather than leave work right on time and sit in rush hour traffic for up to 90 minutes to get to the game. Without the Miami live or something else inside the stadium, there is literally nothing to do at that stadium.

Miami live should help that a lot.

Recess is the EPITOME of an attraction for casuals that aren’t really interested in following the game but want a fun atmosphere to drink and eat more upscale food.

This was the point I was making regarding the bar thing earlier - the argument was there were no casual spaces, and then he was talking about an example of a casual space. I don’t really see an extra area for casual people really doing much.
remember the SRO tickets/sections were also supposed to be for the same purpose.
At the end of the day, on field product is what matters to consistently get more people in the building, and they don’t seem to care about that.

if you want to take everything 100% literally, then you win sherlock, great detective work to find 2 bars in the stadium. It's a major league stadium, obviously there is something other than seats. Neither one of those bars are all that appealing or special in general, and especially to kids and families. There is a reason why marlins park is consistently rated among the worst stadiums in baseball, which shouldnt happen for just a 12 year old stadium, and why the announcement for the outside plaza improvements were met with actual positivity surrounding something the franchise did for once You've said you bring your kids to games, if you get there early what are you doing with them?

You're just arguing to argue semantics, because in your first response to this stupid argument you acknowledge the ballpark needs upgrades by saying "I agree that the Marlins would be best served with something similar." If you want to argue about something we both agree on you can continue to scream into the void. The stadium is just as dull and antiseptic as it gets compared to other stadiums around baseball, and really just other stadiums/arenas in this market.

obviously that's just a flier but i have no problem with a move like this. Theres pretty much no risk as it was for the minimum amount you can trade in IFA money. Those IFA's are real fliers so if you can get someone who already has a history in the upper minors and supposedly showed a little something in the AFL it's a whatever move. The fact that this is probably a top 5 move for us this offseason is obviously pathetic though. They are going to go another offseaso not adding a significant player outside of prospects acquired in trades

                        • Boston is apparently desparte to get rid of Yoshida and would take less while packaging Casas. Why not dangle Cabrera? Yea you have Yoshidas contract for a few years but he alone could go a long way to getting the Marlins past the spending penalty.

i brought up yoshida a month or so ago as a guy that makes sense to take on if we could get another player or prospect out of it. I dont see why they would dangle casas just to get rid of yoshida's expensive but not crazy awful contract, but if they would it's a no brainer. Even if it's a lesser prospect, you do that. Yoshida is a terrible fielder but he's a good hitter, have them take on part of his salary, get a prospect, and just slide him in at DH for a few years. He's a career 111 OPS+. He's due 18 million per for the next 3 years. If they take on 8-10 million per year, we get a prospect, and they dump half his salary, i could see that making sense for both sides. plus we dont look quite as terrible to the PA for a grievance for not spending money. Yoshida as a DH on a 3 year, 24 million deal isnt bad. not like we're up against a budget. At least i fucking hope not.

I wouldnt deal cabrera for that and we definitely wouldnt get Casas, but i could see maybe Yoshida and a lower prospect with talent like Miguel Bleis for maybe a guy like Millbrandt or even Fulton or Jacob Miller. Bleis is a 5 tool former very high profile IFA signing OF with ridiculous power but has had injury issues. worth a flier and yoshida is at least a productive hitter. Bleis fits the profile of what we look for by being nowhere close to the big leagues.

                            • Cabrera turns 27 in a few months and has 1.7 WAR in almost 300 career innings(294). Never threw more than 100 IP in a season. He's pretty meh at this point.

They took out the “fun”/a lot of the uniqueness when Jeter came in and made it more institutional/“progessional” with grays and navy blues. Some changes were good, but removing all color from the place was a mistake…..not saying they had to keep the green walls, but they could’ve kept the concourse color zones.

that said, your idea to attract families and give kids a thing to do is a…..bar? I’m not understanding
