and this isnt the early 2000s where the high payroll teams really didnt ALSO develop their farm. the dodgers and some of the other high payroll teams ALSO have some of the best farms in baseball. This team has no chance to ever compete without sherman selling and someone who can at least spend to a league average level.

Too bad we didn't have one of those.

we obviously all know what theyve done this offseason, but i saw a tweet that put all the moves in one place and it was pretty jarring for a team that already lost 100 games last year. No free agents signed, the only addition they made was Mervis and Wagaman, and they lost Luzardo and Burger. Yes they get sandy back, and then full seasons from guys like edwards, norby, etc. and there just has to be better health luck from the SP's in particular, but seeing all the moves together and how theyve done absolutely nothing is pretty crazy for a team that already sucked last year. But baseball is weird so they probably end up somehow being better than last year.

Jake Burger isn't very good. He's just likeable.
Luzardo has an extensive injury history and exactly one MLB quality pitch in his slider, and games when that pitch isn't working he gets rolled.
The issue isn't that these moves were made. The issue is that they were important players to begin with.
