And now they trade Burger for peanuts. I don’t know why anyone should pay a cent to watch this team play. They obviously don’t give a shit about their fans or have any pretense that they’re actually trying to win anytime soon. Fuck this clown show of an organization.
Out of curiosity I looked up both Vargas and Acosta’s scouting reports. Both unlikely to stick at SS, more 2nd base profile. How many times are we going to acquire the same guy?
I’m really struggling to find any logic in the Burger trade at all. He’s super cheap, productive, and wasn’t blocking anyone at the moment. It obviously isn’t a money thing…and it’s not as if they needed to get rid of him to tank. And besides, MLB has proven that winning 60 games or 80 games can make very little difference in draft order anyway.
I can’t believe they would move him to clear the way for DDLS or Ramirez to start the year either and burn a year of service time on either. So there was literally no reason to make this trade now given the return. They could have received the same caliber of players at the deadline if they were determined to go with younger players. I suppose it’s possible they really love Vargas or Acosta more than their rankings…but I’m not giving them the benefit of the doubt on prospects until they actually hit on someone.
Maybe they have another move coming, because you can’t claim to want to score more runs next year and then trade your best and really, only power hitter right now.
And of course you’re there with bells on to rationalize in your homer way anything they do. There is a difference between following the team and actively
being a fan of the team. I’m the former at this point. This is not a major league organization

The Marlins have a surplus of good pitching and Luzardo will be a free agent in 2 years. Your team has no hitters and even after your trades last year, a middle of the pack farm system. If you can get good value for him, trading him is a no-brainer. Will you get good value for him coming off of the injury is another question.
We have a “surplus” every year and every year it implodes because we don’t have enough.
and I’d be surprised if we get what we should with him coming off the injury.
In a world with these pitching contracts, Luzardo is pretty valuable to not cost these prices
Quite frankly, I am waiting now for the switch-a-roo and Sandy is moved because “we didn’t want to trade him but got an offer we couldn’t refuse.” And it will make total sense in the circle 2028 kind of way, but it goes back to when will they ever do something worthwhile echoing comments above.
Year 5 of Bendix is gonna be lit. Maybe.
2024 nah, 2026, nah, 2028….2034…..2058….keep moving that target date lol
Even if DDLS starts at 1B on Opening Day, this trade makes virtually no sense. Make it make sense, Peter.
It makes sense in that it’s a complete and total tear down, just like I said when they traded Arraez and you gave me shit for. They are going to lose the window of having solid pitching, then probably cycle back to having solid hitting with no pitching in 4 years
