Rojas did his stupid "thousand yard stare with deep in and out breaths and two short bat flicks" thing before every at bat including when he first came up. It was an obnoxious routine for someone who was as beyond awful a hitter as Rojas was.

    • Regular season starting right now in South Korea on ESPN

      • So just saw Cabrera likely out 3 weeks, and Braxton "mid April." (Also Rogers FB velocity down 1.4 MPH from last year, and that's 3 down from 2021/2022 so that reliever projection is coming fast unless he's in a dead arm/recovery period).

So maybe we are looking at this

        Pitt
        28 Luzardo
29 Weathers < - Most innings potential next for me
        30 Puk
31 Hoeing/Soriano <- Slotted here to take advantage of the off day 4/5

        LAA
        1 Rogers
        2 Luzardo (Normal rest)
        3 Weathers (Normal rest)

        @STL
        4 Puk (Normal rest)
        OFF
6 Rogers (skip Hoeing) (Normal rest)
        7 Luzardo (Normal rest)

        @_NYY
        8 Weathers (Normal rest)
        9 Puk (Normal rest)
        10 Optimistically Garrett if this is Mid-April, maybe Hoeing/Soriano start # 2

        OFF

        ATL
12 Luzardo (push Rogers) (Normal rest)
        13 Weathers (Normal rest)
        14 Puk (Normal rest)

        SF
        15 Rogers (+4 days rest)
16 Optimistically Garrett since this is now Mid-April, maybe Hoeing/Soriano start # 3
        17 Luzardo (Normal rest)

@CHC ---> 4 game series. Optimistically this is Weathers, Puk, Cabrera, and Garrett with Rogers fully shifted to a bulk guy. That's reasonable for what we're being told worst case scenario.

So ultimately, we might be looking at 1 Hoeing/Soriano bullpen day the opening home stand, and maybe that's it if Garret can get back by the 10th. I think we can all live with Puk/Rogers/Weathers getting starts early on so long as Cabrera and Garrett are healthy pretty quick in mid April.

It's not quite on fire yet despite all the injuries, but there is really no more margin of error here. And then a big question with Eury as they need those 140 or so innings. Where the hell is the news on him?

        • No news on Eury is likely due to them not wanting to lose all leverage on Montgomery

          • Yeah I just don't see any way this doesn't lead to some sort of surgery for Eury.

I don't know, the new FO is kind of like Bellicheck and just doesn't give info. These were good Cabrera and Garrett reports this afternoon which is a nice random update. Big picture level, Eury missing even 10 starts is not a big deal for the season. He'll capture back the innings with slightly longer outings with the rest of them. Anything prior to the May 17th homestand is basically a bonus to me and that does give 2 full months to rehab if he needs a full 4-5 week shut down here or fix the fingernail or whatever. Hopefully its not worse.

Also, Sixto 8 scoreless spring training innings. 5 baserunners (1 H, 3 BB, 1HBP), and 4 K. So we do have that.

                    Absolutely pathetic organization.

                    • can we stop acting like lorenzon is this stud pitcher? The guy is a mediocre back end guy or a decenmt middle reliever. His XFIP the last 4 years are 4.55, 4.92, 4.2, and 4.68 last year. He doesnt strike guys out and he walks a lot of guys. career 7.48 K/9 and 3.58 bb/9. His velocity has gone down every year since 2019. He was horrendous for the phillies last year once they got him. Could he have helped? Sure, a bunch of guys could help theoretically. It isnt some huge organizational failure to not sign him to a 1 year 5 million deal.

                      • The hope was that Mel could work his magic and innings help. Nobody was expecting a 1.05 ERA

mel doesnt have a magic wand to turn mediocre veterans with 10 years of experience into studs. He helps young guys with talent figure it out, but he is not some all powerful being to turn guys into quality pitchers. If he was Cueto would have been good last year and we wouldnt need to be signing anyone.

You realize Yonny Chirinos/Bryan Hoeing is about to be in our Opening Day rotation right?

you realize nobody wants to sign here, right? This team is a completely undesirable destination for any free agents with options. He chose the defending champions on a team that actually spends money. You wouldnt sign here as a free agent if you had any other options. What was the last free agent that signed here that wasnt some sort of reclamation project?

Also, you realize opening day is 7 days away and lorenzon wouldnt be in the opening day rotation either, right? Garrett and Cabrera will be back shortly after opening day and wont miss much time, and we still have not heard anything regarding eury being out.

Also, it's going to be Vladimir Gutierrez or George Soriano. Chirinos was optioned yesterday. Soriano has thrown 8.2 scoreless in spring, 9 k's, 1 walk, just 3 hits and no runs.

People want money. Offer more money they’ll sign here. Lorenzen isn’t chasing a championship. 99% of the players in this league will take the highest contract that is offered to them. It’s the only the 1% of players that have already gotten their huge contracts that can afford to pick and choose. If you think lack of innings isn’t going to be a problem you’re out of your mind. It already is a problem.
