sixto will make the roster now as long as he doesnt have a set back. In spring he's at 4 scoreless, just 1 hit, no runs, and most importantly he's actually throwing hard again.
maybe he is the righty reliever i've been asking for them to add instead of meyer.Last edited by fish16; 03-13-2024, 02:45 PM.

Patrick Corbin (increases overall team payroll $6m dollars so this is a $6m salary dump + Nasim + fringe reliever arm), who has 16 K in 12.1 IP this spring, and had a 4.50 ERA first two times through the order last year, with a third time through balloon to 6.90 ERA which is why the stats are bad. Overall xFIP of 4.76 ERA and that's with the demolishing of the third time through the order. So just pitch him 1+ times through the lineup 32 times for 100+ innings. Maybe the Nationals even split the difference there just to save $3m bucks and get 2 flyer prospects. This is an uninspiring 120 or so innings but they are innings the Marlins need + veteran presence. He was there in 2019 for their world series.
You can of course just sign Lorenzen (but maybe he is hellbent on getting that 2/$17m deal w/ opt out and Gerrit Cole just triggered a market for him), but this may be cheaper to effectively sign Corbin for $1/3-6m as Garcia is a concrete payroll block thrown into the ocean so Corbin's overall money doesn't matter.
This is my favorite bad salary dump move. I think it makes a lot of sense. The Nationals are getting absolutely nothing from him anywhere else and does him a solid by moving him to a theoretical contender he may have a shot with if everything goes right.

I would never have anticipated this one but I am all for this. Hopefully he doesn't get hurt tomorrow and this is the highlight of the last 4 years.
I'm not going to get greedy (yet) here, but if he can actually throw 2 innings at a time, if he can eat 80 innings this season out of the pen over 40 appearances that would be enormous.

To me that felt like a last ditch effort to try to get something out of him, even though they really knew he was done. Now this spring happens, and I don't know what to think.
If Chargois is hurt like Fish16 mentioned, that creates an optionable spot w/ Soriano so they will just cycle through the 40 man. It'll work with Sixto "stuck" on the active roster, but Bryan Hoeing is definitely throwing some innings this year with this set up. Maybe not as many as 2023, but it's 40+ easily.

Our lineup last time he pitched a major league game was Berti, Dickerson, Aguilar, Brian Anderson, Cooper, Jazz, Rojas, Magneuris Sierra, and Chad Wallach. Off the bench we used Lewis Brinson (playing in Japan), Jorge Alfaro, and Matt Joyce (been retired 3 full seasons). Out of the bullpen we pitched Rogers, James Hoyt, Yimi Garcia, Ryne Stanek, Brad Boxburger, and Nick VIncent. There were cardboard cutouts and no fans in the stands.
Him coming back is an unbelievable comeback story, not some own.Last edited by fish16; 03-13-2024, 03:46 PM.

From looking back at your own posts, you yourself said 2 full seasons ago that you "have very little confidence didnt even think sixto is all in on rehabbing post surgery as efficiently as possible." That was 2 full years ago.

I'm not at all surprised that you didn't admit you were wrong after you REPEATEDLY said Sixto was cooked and the Marlins should move on. Admitting you're wrong isn't your style.

Hes pitched 5 spring innings. That’s 2 more innings than full seasons he’s missed consecutively. Can you name a single player in major league history who has missed three consecutive years due to injury and come back? Him coming back would be a massive achievement.

Cease trade is a potential comp for Luzardo also. Cease is statistically a little better, but Luzardo has that 3rd year of control and cheaper. I think it would net out roughly. Effectively, Cease was traded for this in Marlins prospect terms:
Max
Noble
Bender/Soriano
Cova
If it's basically a big 2 name prospect package featuring two top 40-80 overall guys and two flyers. Just focusing on the top 2 guys, headliners right now would be:
Yankees - Wells, Dominguez
Minn - Lee, E. Rodriguez
Milwaukee - Quero, Ortiz
Detroit - Keith, Jung
Boston - Bleis/Rafaela, Teel/Rafaela/Bleis
Dodgers - Rushing/Cartaya, Hurt
Orioles - Mayo/Kjerstad (no Basallo), and a weaker 2nd, better 3rd outside top 100, maybe like Bradfield and Norby
Tampa - Mead, Isaac
Cubs - Busch, Shaw/Alcantara
I think those bold ones would make the most sense, especially with Rafaela and Mayo as the main ones for those two. Lee, Rafaela, and Mayo are this summer or earlier arrivals and the second guy is coming fast. I imagine players 3/4 would be Edwards/Soriano types about MLB ready for platoon/bench roles.
Not advocating, just saying here. It's a trade comp and gives some perspective of what teams would do prospect wise versus doing an effective 1-1 from for Pablo/Arraez with nominal throw ins. So it's a question of if/when this may be worth it. If they fall out at the deadline, those 3 bold teams may get desperate, etc. And Scott/Berti as throw ins can up that package.
