    • only nunez picked, banfield and johnston stay. 30 other fucking teams just passed on troy johnston, maybe we can shut the fuck up now about how he wasnt added to the 40 man

      • we drafted a low A OF from the mets and a AAA OF from the Astros named marty costes. costes looks interesting depending on the defense. older but solid plate discipline. Lots of walks and a .379 career OBP in the minors.

        • sean roby 3b from the giants drafted. looks to have a ton of power and absolutely 0 plate discipline. organizational depth. 39% k rate in 2022.

Mish brings up the kapler connection. Roby impressed him in spring one year. that's why he was drafted.

              • we also signed former ray opener Matt Andriese. No big leagues since 2021, looks like he was injured in 2022 and came back last year and got pretty lit up with the dodgers AAA team. clearly the former rays guys like something about him given friedman signed him last year in LA and now bendix this year here.

                • I really feel like we could have easily beaten that package the Yankees gave for Verdugo.

                  • Off-Season has been your basic by the numbers off-season for the Marlins, do nothing, wait until all the other chips fall and then panic near the end pick up whatever scraps are left to make it seem like we tried in the off-season.

are we trying to field an outfield that will never get a hit against left handed pitching for 162 straight games?

almost nothing has happened so far this offseason other than the yankees making the 2 trades yesterday and today and the cardinals signing every middling SP available. . Nothing is going to happen until ohtani signs with the dodgers this weekend, then the rest of the chips will fall.

There's been quite a few signings and deals, maybe not major ones, but I'm not really expecting the Marlins to be in on any major free agent.

We shouldn’t be. That’s not the way we should be building this team

Right, but we should be spending money. Resign players, take on money in trades, make smart free agent signings, we haven't done jackshit.

                              • In last year's Rule 5, Oakland selected Ryan Noda with the second overall pick. Noda's numbers during the 2022 season in the Dodgers system were very similar to Troy Johnston's this past season (although not as good as Troy's even in a better hitter environment). Both players were first basemen originally drafted in the 17th round and Noda was actually a few months older than Johnston on draft day. Noda put up a 121 OPS+ for his rookie season. For comparative purposes, Josh Bell had an OPS+ of 104 last season.

I am extemely happy that Johnston is still in the Miami system and hope that he can match the continuing success that Noda has enjoyed.
