  • Wendle to the Mets.

Hampson to the Royals (and making more than what his arb tender would be, good for him). Good move for KC to make a cheap bet on him

Id pass because it’s going to be expensive and presumably Burger (or DLC or maybe Berry works out) will be shifted to DH eventually if they keep their guys.

IMO I think assets need to go to (no order) C, SS, CF/plus defensive corner OF, and SP. Everything else is secondary and would have to be real opportunistic. Can’t imagine they will struggle to move him as he can hit

      • Who would you rather have on your team, Garrett Hampson or Vidal Brujan? By my analysis, Hampson is the better utility man in every way. While he should be stealing more bases with his 98th percentile sprint speed, he is a more efficient runner than Brujan, a better fielder, and a far more reliable major league hitter at this point. Hampson signed with KC.

Who would you rather have in your Opening Day lineup, Josh Bell or Troy Johnston? In my opinion, Johnston would be (perhaps will be for another team) at least an equal performer in 2024. He would cost almost $13 million less.

Who would you rather see as the Opening Day second baseman for the Marlins, Arraez, Edwards, or Chisholm? (the Edwards and Chisholm choices presume an Arraez move to first base and the Chisholm choice presumes that the Marlins find a CF.)

Who will be the Marlins most effective starting pitcher next season, Perez, Cabrera, Rogers, Luzardo or Garrett? Seems to me that any of them is a possibility.

Is Victor Caratini destined to be the Marlins catcher next season? How much will it cost to buy him in free agency? I'm guessing two years and $11 million.

How much would you pay Adam Duvall to return to the Marlin outfield? Would he adequately replace Soler?

Lee, me and you are Johnston's biggest fans you know that, but this statement is based on absolutely nothing. How many guys have we seen over the years kill it in AAA and then do absolutely nothing in the majors? Josh Bell is a known quantity at the major league level.

For me, it's all about the arc. Johnston has improved along every step of his advancement. I have compared his growth to another once-nothing in Max Muncy. Just look at their ages and progression. Bell was a 0.4 WAR player over the entirety of last season.

I agree with you there, I think he'll be a quality major leaguer. That doesn't mean I think he's going to master major league pitching right off the bat, you can't guarantee he's going to provide Josh Bell's numbers (.800 OPS) immediately in the big leagues, you just can't.

I don't see the Marlins as a serious contender this season ... not even close really. I'd have rather watched Johnston develop in the bigs in 2024 than watch Bell do whatever.

                • Lee with older minor leaguers who are likely AAAA players feels like Charlie Brown with the football. Just never learns any kind of lesson.

                    53 wins you think?

53 or 73, it makes little difference. The Marlins have to start developing future young players. They have zip in the system, not a single prospect that shouts potential.

by do whatever, do you mean produce as a guy who has been a 17% better than average hitter for his entire career with some real high peaks? He is a very good player, there is a reason why he is making a lot of money and johnston wasnt put on the 40 man roster. And it's not because you know better than everyone else. Kind of like you did with Ben Meyer, Patrick Monteverde who got absolutely lit up the second he got to AAA, Austin Allen, and a host of other guys who you fall in love with based on stats that you are fundamentally incapable of viewing in the proper context

                        • brewers signed chourio to a big long term deal before he plays a game. another team smart enough to lock up their guy early for huge savings down the line. Rays did it with franco even though his off the field issues will void that contract at some point, Carroll did it, among many others. we will cost ourselves way more money down the line if we are dumb enough not to sign eury long term right now.

                          • rosenthal is supposedly reporting that teams are showing interest in cabrera and surprisingly trevor rogers. Orioles make too much sense for rogers. i wouldnt touch cabrera. His value will be significantly higher this time next year. makes no sense to deal him now.

Bell is a decent bat that is mostly offset by an inability to contribute defensively or run the bases.

you understand johnston is a nothing defensively as well correct? And he had a whopping 11 SB's coming into this year. Mlb has his speed as a 30 on the 20-80 scale. You're falling in love with a version of josh bell that is just unproven and doing it against significantly lesser talent. the sad part is that when johnston fizzles out, you will take 0 time to reflect on how fucking stupid it is that you do the same thing over and over again with older minor league AAAA players
