Both teams wanna make this happen and until MLB makes "rules" on trades,stuff like this will keep happening. The real problem is that we have done this plenty of times before,if Kansas City/Minnesota/Seattle would have done this if would be a team wants to rebuild and get younger

Having approved a similar trade between the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers in August, Commissioner Bud Selig seems unlikely to block the Miami Marlins’ agreed-upon salary dump, but he says he is taking the deal under review.

Speaking at the conclusion of quarterly owners meetings, Selig said the 12-player trade has not been submitted to Major League Baseball because some of the players -- most likely Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle and Josh Johnson -- are still undergoing physicals.

“What I can say to you today is I have the entire matter under review,’’ Selig said. “That’s as much as I have today.’’

Selig has the power to kill the trade, which is seen by many fans of the Marlins as a betrayal because it comes within one year of the opening of the publicly funded Marlins Park. But if Selig is to invoke his best interests of baseball powers, he will have to find a precedent to differentiate this trade from the one that sent Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett and a disabled Carl Crawford from Boston to Los Angeles.

“It’s a good analogy,’’ Selig said about comparing one trade to the other. “That’s a fair analogy.’’

Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria was unavailable to reporters Thursday. He appeared to exit the O'Hare Airport hotel from a side door while Selig was briefing reporters. He has not publicly explained his motivation for trading almost $160 million of contracts for Yunel Escobar, Henderson Alvarez and five prospects.

Selig said he did talk to Loria about his motivations for the trade. Selig declined to answer whether this situation was different for him personally than other difficult ownership situations -- such as the bankruptcies of owners with the Dodgers and Rangers -- because he helped Loria campaign for his new stadium.

It doesn't seem like a bad love except for the fact that we are getting rid of every player that is making money and we are the Marlins, who are historically known for this.

I don't think they got fair value when you include Reyes but what do I know.

There also the outliers of the Marlins maybe reinvesting the money into FA's that would help them justify it but I feel like I have a better chance at winning the lotto than them reinvesting the money at this point.

In this case, I hope they veto it so we get more prospects, that would ease some pain.

I know we acquired good prospects, but the haul could've been even better if TOR didn't have to take on everyone's salary.

No, he doesn't.

How cheap could they possibly get? He's only making 5 million and they're not going to find a better 3B than him. They still have to put a team on the field, I would imagine.

What they should do now is probably trade/sign some guys to similar contracts like Escobar's to make the team look respectable at least.

Well I think they will invest it for a vet SP to get innings (2 yrs/10-15 mil)however u are correct. The Buehrle thing tho people can't get to mad about,we have told every team in MLB that he was on the block however it wouldn't be a salary dump(which it wasn't) We got a young SP who has been pitching in the majors

The Buehrle part was a salary dump, as well. That's why it was so nice to trade him...to dump his salary.

Take away the salary and Buehrle is worth more than this.

The whole trade is a salary dump. I don't mind it, personally, because they were mostly bad salaries, but it's a salary dump. And they should re-invest at least some of the money. If they don't, it's a joke.
