  • Jacob Turner Debut Could Come As Early As Friday

Marlins fans might not have to wait long before getting a glimpse of prized pitching prospect Jacob Turner, the centerpiece of the Anibal Sanchez/Omar Infante trade with the Tigers.

The Marlins are considering Turner to start one of the doubleheader games Friday in Washington. The ninth overall pick in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, Turner on Saturday made his organizational debut for Triple-A New Orleans. He earned the win after allowing a run on two hits with three walks and two strikeouts through five innings.

Zephyrs lefty Brad Hand also is under consideration. He is 8-5 with a 3.66 ERA, 54 walks and 116 strikeouts in 128 innings (22 starts), and would be pitching on regular rest.

Turner conceivably could make one start and head back to New Orleans. Per the new collective bargaining agreement, for a pre-scheduled doubleheader teams are allowed to carry a 26th player.

Catcher Rob Brantly, another piece the Marlins acquired from the Tigers, is off to a nice start in New Orleans. Through Sunday, he was 7-for-14 with a double, a homer and six RBI. The homer was a pinch-hit, three-run, walk-off blast in the 10th inning Sunday against Iowa.

    I didn't know that 26th man rule. That's a good rule.

I was unaware of that too. Very good rule. In all honesty with full time interleague coming I see no reason rosters shouldn't just be expanded to 26.
