  • Lou, you sure about his arbitration clock? If he doesn't get called up again this season I think he doesn't hit the mark. I could be off though.

He was at 2.062 Days before the year started, was up April 4th-May 19 (approx 45 days), and again June 10-July 4 (approx 25 days). So that's another 70 days approximately. I'm not sure when the clock started this year also, as if it was the Japan series, you can add another week or so to the total.

He is around 2.132ish days (without the japan week which I don't know if that counts) which has got to be plus/minus a week from the Super2 deadline. I don't think any organization can count on him not ending up a Super 2 if we are thinking of this in terms of his trade value.

No, I was wrong. Gaby is under the "previous year" allotment (86 days) which is required to be Super 2 eligible. He is at the aforementioned 70ish days so he is 2 weeks from a guaranteed pay day. If he is down all year, he probably has sufficient Super 2 overall time, but will absolutely not get to prior year determination to be eligible.

So yes. If a team trades for him and keeps him in AAA, or the Marlins just keep him down, he will be club controlled next year for thousands over MLB minimum.

I say keep him in AAA all year unless he is needed in September to make the playoffs. Let him fight onto the team in March, and hopefully perform where he is useful to the Marlins or as a trade asset for whatever.
