Hopefully Nolasco continues pitching well to trade him at the deadline. That would be great.

Yesterday was the best his curveball's looked in a really long time. Actually encouraging, from a trade perspective (because, come on, someone'll talk themselves into him if we eat some $$) or from an in-house perspective because there are worse guys to have as your #4 (even if he's being paid like a 2/3).

If he pitches well for another month, he'll certainly have trade value. Maybe not great trade value but still.
Strike-throwing, innings eaters usually have value at any time, especially the trade deadline. With his peripherals being better than his results, maybe some organizations will be even more intrigued thinking he could use a change of scenery.

If somehow we turn it around and we look like contenders we can't move him. We simply don't have the SP depth to replace him. Wade LeBlanc is not a starter on a playoff team.
That having been said, I'm not sure they trade him regardless during the season because of the PR. Any trade of a "major" player - and let's face it, Ricky has been here for 6 years and is recognizable to the casual fan, is the all-time wins leader, etc. - will be seen as a firesale and will be disastrous to next year's ticket sales and fan support. Better to hold off until the offseason when you can hide it in the headlines behind the Dolphins and the Canes and the Heat season starting again. Right now, it'd be the top story and Dave Hyde would have a fucking field day with it.

LOL
I know you're not saying they're a playoff team. I'm just doing a thing.

Yeah I wasn't, I was just making a larger point. If some miracle happens and they win 19 of 20 and the rest of the division melts down they CAN'T trade him because they have no SP depth.Originally posted by Madman81Most of the people in the world being dumb is not a requirement for you to be among their ranks.

I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but the Marlins are kind of endearing because they act in a way that's defiant if not entirely dismissive of public opinion/want. I really think they'll do whatever they want. I also think that, if they suck and keep sucking, renewals are going to be bad anyway so they might as well take a shot at getting good, even if it's a year down the line.
