I mean, sure. The team won't be any better, but sure.

He needs to make a move. I know it's not as simple as just wanting to do something, but damn man. They can't just let this season go down the shitter.

The organization needs a fresh pair of eyes at the top. He's one of the longest tenured GMs/Presidents in the league. A lot of this has to do with the organization being cheap for six years, but Beinfest hasn't proven himself to have the skills to warrant such a tenure. I don't think he can fix this, and I don't want him to be part of the long term plan to solve this.

That's fine. I can see the merit in that argument. As long as we're all in complete and utter agreement that it won't make any sort of tangible difference on where this season is headed.

We'd win the World Series this year if we fired Beinfest.

Is that what you wanted to hear?

No. That is pretty much the exact opposite of what I wanted to hear.

              Cool, fire Beinfest. Whatever.

But also, you know, tangible moves to improve the team on the field right now. Because firing Beinfest has no impact on this current slide we are on. Beinfest was not responsible for us being the best team in baseball during May any more than he is responsible for what is happening here.

I get the argument for firing Beinfest. But I'd much rather focus on making moves that will stop this slide, if we're going to start chanting for things.

                Re: the fire Beinfest thing:

Buck, Bonifacio, Gaby and Lomo have combined for a .212/.297/.312 line this season.

They hit .261/.327/.413 last season, collectively.

That's a gigantic reason why the offense has under-performed. Did anyone see those four guys collectively dropping over .200 OPS points this season? How much can you blame Beinfest for that?

We signed three free agents this year and two of them have pretty much been exactly as expected. Reyes hasn't been an All-Star level contributor yet, but he has been tremendous since the beginning of May, and Buehrle has been solid as hell.

Is this an inherently flawed baseball team? Did anyone see the type of horrific starts that Gaby and Buck got off to coming?

Sure, you can say there is not enough depth. But even better depth wouldn't have made up for the unbelievable drop off from essentially just those four guys.

Just popping in. Yes, bobbob, some of us saw Buck and Gaby as big liabilities. Or do you forget those wonderful (my iPad autocorrected to woeful which is appropriate as well) offseason debates? This isn't a tremendous shock to learn Gaby and Buck suck.

I doubt it. Sub .700 OPS in AAA and could barely play LF in Boston 6-7 years ago.

You expected Gaby's OPS to drop .270 points in one season?

There is a difference between seeing someone as a liability and thinking they are going to become the worst players in baseball. I don't think you saw that in your crystal ball, but please prove me wrong by citing some evidence.

Swift, did you also foresee a .115 point drop in Lomo's OPS and a .096 point drop in Bonifacio's line, not to mention an injury that will likely cost him two full months of the season?
                          --------------------
And that's not even getting into JJ, Bell, Dunn, Mujica and Webb seeing tremendous drops in their expected production with little to no reason from one year to the next.

This team has had a lot of negative outliers, with only Infante and maybe Zambrano significantly outperforming expectations.

Maybe that is on Beinfest. I just don't think all of these guys absolutely pooping their pants at once was easily foreseeable.
                          --------------------
Even if you want to say "You know, Gaby really sucked after the All-Star break last year (Which as far as I can remember, is all anyone said about him this offseason), he still had a 40% higher OBP and 28% higher SLUG from the 2nd half last year to this season.

                          Nobody saw this coming.

Let me preface this by saying I've made a pretty Hugh dent in a bottle of JD Single Barrel.............

But if anyone on the board can say they saw this coming, Swift would be the guy that could make that claim.
