I've always felt subpar players make better coaches because they typically have to work much harder to excel at the game than those who are just naturally gifted and talented and blessed with tools

    But Eduardo Perez fucking sucks

There's no joke there. I'm happy for those coaches. He's not one of them.

Working for ESPN was a warning sign.

          Marlins OPSes under John Mallee

          June 2010: .777
          July 2010: .663
          August 2010: .735
          Sept/Oct 2010: .720
          April 2011: .715
          May 2011: .705

          1 of 6 months under .700

          Marlins OPSes under Eduardo Perez
          June 2011: .624 (!)
          July 2011: .777
          August 2011: .697
          September 2011?: .721
          April 2012: .690

          3 of 5 months under .700

Mallee got fired much quicker for much less
Shouldn't who was in the lineup during those months also be taken into consideration.

Of course, which is why I'm not hitting the panic button yet.

Unrelated, but we're 1-5 against the NLE.

I was thinking that myself. Generally speaking, if you're working for ESPN, it's because you're not good enough to work in the sport.

Sure. Mallee's April and May included Hanley's OPSes of .558 and .666, Perez's June and July included his OPSes of .707 and .896.

                Mallee's April and May had Infante's OPSes of .589 and .595, Perez got his .673, .711, 1.022, and .733.

                What else should we consider?

I'm not sure that's helping your case there.

                      And ruined everyone else's?
                      --------------------
I mean, Hanley's OPS increased that much and our team OPS went down that much...what does that tell you about how the rest of the team is doing?

I don't think he's doing well but we don't know what's going on. He can't hit for them.

I guess I'm just curious how there was cause for canning Mallee so quickly (who had worked for the organization for 9 years) but not for Perez (who never coached but happens to be the son of the team's adviser)

Well we had lost like 19 of 21 games. That's why.
