  • 2012 Position Battles: Final Bullpen Spot

The bullpen is almost set in place, but the uncertainty of Juan Oviedo makes one spot up for grabs.

    Locks:
    Heath Bell
    Edward Mujica
    Randy Choate
    Ryan Webb
    Michael Dunn
    Steve Cishek

So who wins the final spot? Here are some options:
    Juan Oviedo
    Alex Sanabia
    Sean West
    Jose Ceda
    Wade LeBlanc
    Chris Hatcher
    Evan Reed
    Chad Gaudin*
    Rob Delaney*
    Gary Glover*

*Would require to be added to the 40-man roster, which is full.

I think Evan Reed will surprise a lot of people this spring and I think he will make the club.

I knew I was forgetting someone. My bad.

Just the facts Jack. /no idea

I'm still a Juanky fan, so I'm hoping he is allowed back and can work the 7th or 8th and do a good job.

Sean West initially because of whole options situation.

Not sure that there's only one bullpen spot open

If Oviedo is ready to go for the season, I think he gets it. If not, I think it's LeBlanc

I know Cishek has options left so I definitely wouldn't consider him a lock.

I expect Sean West on the team or traded. It doesn't harm the team to keep him in a mop up role and if he completely tanks you try and sneak him through waivers then.

Also Oviedo will have a spot or be traded when/if cleared to play.

I really think, at this point, West would make it through waivers.

Not sure why Oviedo is an option. He doesn't have to win anything. If he's able to come to the States, his spot is more guaranteed than half the guys listed on the guaranteed list.

Oviedo would either be our setup man or get traded; he's not battling for a roster spot at all.

His spot isn't guaranteed, though, because his status is up in the air. A vote against him is an opinion that he won't make it in time.

Exactly. By choosing him, you believe he will be back in time. If you don't, then you think he'll be still held up.

                              Makes sense, in that case.

If he doesn't make it, I think it'll either be Sean West or Wade LeBlanc.
