  • I think the Marlins should do something progressive like sign Stanton long term and hang on to him for the duration of his contract.

Cabrera and Stanton generational talents no? So yes we have had two.

      • It's crazy to think we've called up 3 HOF talents in less than 10 years.

Traded one away before his peak, one crashed-and-burned during what should have been his peak (and then traded), and we're likely to trade the other one away too before his peak.

        Fucking sad

Imagine if we had a competent ownership and front office. This team could be in the playoff hunt every year. If nothing else fun to watch. Cabs and Stanton in the same lineup would be beyond sexy.

You could argue that it could be four (Beckett). But I guess that goes to around 10 years.

            • Well it would still be three because odds are the Marlins don't have Hanley if they don't move Beckett.

              • Also, Beckett's a Hall of Famer only if you reeeeeally value postseason performance over the course of two years.

                • It's three. And three is a lot.

                  • He allowed 18 runs in 21 innings over his last two postseason runs, so we'll probably put that towards the back of his Hall of Fame resume.

                    • I don't think Beckett is even close HOF worthy and I don't even know if he's the best pitcher we've brought up.

If you compare his age 22-28 numbers with JJ's (Both rookies at age 22, JJ was 28 last year), you get

                      Beckett: 3.83 ERA, 115 ERA+, 1164 IP
                      JJ: 3.14 ERA, 133 ERA+, 904 IP

There's a ~200 IP gap there in favor of Beckett but a huge gap in ERA in favor of JJ.

                      • Beckett's been pretty massively overrated for a while.

                        • Beckett over the years became fat and lazy. Shows by his many trips to the DL

                          • I think HOF talent and HOF player are 2 different things.

Averaged a .906 OPS with 25 home runs and 39 stolen bases per season over his first five seasons. He was absolutely on a Hall of Fame track before he inexplicably started being completely mediocre.
